1998 Jeep Wrangler a/c problem

The a/c on my 1998 jeep wrangler works only when the car is cool. Once you start driving it only cools for around 2 - 15 minutes depending on how hot the day is. Then it starts to smell like vinegar and the air starts to come out really hot. Just like if it had No freon. So basically it is not cooling when I need it. If the day is really hot the a/c system doesn't cool at all. When you open the hood you can see that when there is No cold air coming out the clutch is not cycling. It only cycles when the cold air is working. How can I fix this problem. I had a similar problem before and they changed the condenser about 4 to 5 years ago.

What this means is that either you have a low charge or your expansion valve is failing to operate properly. the expansion valve regulates the ther system which in turn allows the clutch to kick in . 4-5 years is generally the time a system needs a recharge anyway because the refrigerant starts to break down and the system no longer meets the minumum pressures. plus your dryer element most likely needs replacing as well thats where you get the smell from the crystal pellets inside the dryer are no longer any good

1998 jeep wrangler blows out cool air

you can answer the valve question your self. just look, at the 2 hoses
to the heater core. its there, or not.
the 1998 is here.
see cooling and HVAC sections, as i see , (no engine stated)
there is no valve in the engine bay.
page 7-2 , see that?
then see HVAC page.
if hot water flows thru the core. then the dampers are stuck (why takes tests)
car has 3 vacuum servos, they can be watched to see if each works
page 24-38 (chapter 24 hvac, end)

in an emergancy you can force any vacuum servo to do what you want with bailing wire or tie wraps.
force dampers to heat max. no recirc, and what ever direction you want. on cars with no hot water valve, (this car)
they have a heat damper, yours is stuck closed.
the H/C lever, moves this damper, open and closed.
make it so.

I need a diagram for the under hood fuse box. More importantly the specific 20 amp fuse labeled F21. What is it for. I have a 1998 jeep wrangler 4.0 4wd.

Are you sure that this is for 20AMP, according with the repair manual, the position 20 in the Power Distribution Center if for Power Motor ABS Pump, and is 10AMP.

Verify it..

95 jeep wrangler: gauge indicates 0 oil pressure

Wire on oil sending unit may have fallen off or sensor itself may have gone bad. Check both. If engine has no tapping noises, likely it's not a pressure problem.

1998 Jeep Wrangler a/c problem

If you still have freon in it you can try a new low pressure switch. You should find it around the oblong tank. You can unplug the switch and jump the plug to see if the clutch engages. Moderation is the key. Put in the correct ounces of Freon and the system should cycle. Too much freon it will cut out-too little it will cut out. You want the pipes to sweat or frost and the compressor to go off and on. Also be sure you put in an oil charge for that new compressor.
