Question about 1999 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

Name needed for part

I need the name for the valve that let the engine run idle.
I do have a '99 taurus and sometimes it doesn't run idle.
After a little hit with something on a piece on top of the engine it runs fine.
It is located on the top of the engine in the back of the compartement at the driver side. It is connected with 2 bolts and has wires at the other side

Idle fluctuates on 1995 f250, sometimes dies, sometimes revs, no apparent vaccum issues, IAC with scan tool reads low voltage issue. Could this be vaccum, charging system, faulty computer? Problem is...

Engine stalls cold or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control. If the above cleaning doesn't cure your issues you need to have the computer controlled automatic idle speed control system diagnosed and repaired by a dealer or electronic engine control repair shop.

Yes and the way it runs.
Disconnect and plug the vacuum lines to the EGR, and see if you still have idle and driveability issues. If not replace the Valve.

Runs fine in park as soon as you put in reverse or drive it stalls

There are so many things that could be causing this, but I can tell you about the last vehicle that did this to me. It was the idle air control valve (IAC). Some vehicles have something named a little different, but both are for the same purpose. It basically tells the car how many rpms are running, what kind of load is on the engine, etc. It controls the air to fuel mixture in the intake, and if its off, then when you go to put it in gear, the load on the engine alone will cause it to die. It will also do this sometimes when the a/c gets turned on, or you turn the vehicle and your power steering puts load on the engine. I dont know if any of this sounds like your situation, but it was very frustrating for me. Hope this helps out some how.

Idle trouble

Check your EGR Valve and your IAC. These can and are usually common problems with bad idle and at sometime your car will be hard to start and when you give it gas it will feel like it almost wants to just lunge forward really fast
