1997 Chevy S-10 Doors intermittantly lock and unlock uncommanded.

This ''ghost'' locking and unlocking is spuratic and will stop when the power accessories 20 amp breaker is pulled. I did try disconnecting the door switches thinking there might be a short but this did not stop the problem...could this be the grounding issue on the relay, relay going bad, or is there a short in the wiring?

I found the relay (six pin) under the glove box on the passenger side. Replaced it and the problem still continued. I don't think it is the power accessory breaker (although it does make a clicking noise when the switches are used).

  • cool6664 May 09, 2009

Next stop is to look for a shorted wire maybe in the door jam.

  • cool6664 May 09, 2009

Good idea...however this model does not have that function...but it does have a keyless entry system that could be causing the problem. I do not know where the relay or conrol circut for that is...nothing in the Haynes manual.

  • cool6664 May 12, 2009

Found the remote keless entry module under the dash on the drivers side...right behind the scan tool connection point. Disconnected and the intermittant problem stopped but now the driver door will not fuction electrically. the relays in the moduale are chattering when it is plugged in. Will see if the dealer has replacement module.

  • cool6664 May 12, 2009

Found the keyless entry module right where

cgyver468 said it would be. It's relays were chattering. when disconnected the ghoast problem stopped but the driver door will only opperate manually...passenger side is okay...will have try a replacement module nex

Try reprograming the auto locking feature, you will need the owners manual for instructions to do it,you should be able to turn off the auto-locking part of it,like when you put it in gear and the doors automatically lock.

When I use my remote starter & door lock/unlock and the lock/unlock button in the car, it does not lock or unlock both back doors. It does start the car, opens the trunk, and lock & unlock both...

The rear doors probably dont come w accuators in them. Meaning that the rear doors alot of times don't have power options. If you are certain that your rear doors have factory power locks then I would say it's a wire somewhere...did you try a double click of the unlock button. My two door chevy truck unlocks the driver door with one click and the pass door requires a double click. Hope this helps !

2006 Tahoe Z71 Lift Gate Will Not Unlock With Remote

Take the liftgate inside panel off an check the wiring , connections etc....
rear door hatch lock repair GMC Chevrolet
chevy tahoe lift gate not opening
The liftgate will lock any time the vehicle is shifted out of park on vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission and at vehicle speeds exceeding 5 kph with manual transmission. This happens in conjunction with auto door locks if enabled or independently of auto door locks if the feature is disabled. This ensures that the liftgate is locked anytime the vehicle is shifted out of park or when the vehicle is in motion.
The liftgate lock relay supply and coil sides receive a constant voltage through the battery voltage supply circuit and the ECC fuse. The normally closed contact is connected to ground and the control side is connected to the body control module (BCM). A lock function will occur when a door lock switch activation, keyless entry lock transmission, auto door lock function or a liftgate lock function has been received by the BCM. The BCM will then ground the control side of the liftgate lock relay. This energizes the relay and allows voltage to be applied to the liftgate lock actuator lock control circuit. Since the other side of the liftgate lock actuator is connected to the normally closed contacts of the door unlock relay to ground, the liftgate will lock. When an unlock function occurs the BCM will ground the control side of the unlock relay and the rear doors and liftgate will unlock.
The BCM also runs diagnostics on the liftgate lock relay control circuit and will set DTC B3825 as current and also send a Class 2 message to the DIC. The DIC will display REPLACE LIFTGATE FUSE to inform the driver that a fault has been detected in the liftgate lock circuit and that the liftgate is not locked. Faults that will set the DTC and cause the DIC to display the message could be any of the following

2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx - Electrical Problems?

Hello I am not sure if this is the exact fix but I was having the same problem and I took my Malibu in to be checked and it appears to be a problem inside the steering column. When I turn the steering wheel it makes the door locks go crazy!! So although this is not a fix it may be a place to look for a frayed wire or a short in the wires. I am taking my Malibu in on Monday to be checked. Good luck to all having the same problem.
