What is an aftermarket alarm? I had the original alarm disconnected. After that I had another alarm placed and later had that disconnected. Should I have all the alarms disconnected, permanetly? Your prompt answer was very much appreciated. I'm sure its probably a simple problem but what a headache. I had a new ground wire replaced, yesterday. Maybe this will help. Thanks again. Hester

Check your main ground lead coming from your battery that mounts to the frame. See if this bolt that fixes that main wire to the frame end is in good condition and not loose. That might be it.

Sounds like an aftermarket alarm is stopping the car from turning over... either tow to aftermarket electronics shop or take dash apart and look for something with a bunch of wires coming off it, post the model # here, hopefully someone can help u further...

if you hear clicking, I'll bet almost anything that it is an alarm still in there, yes.. disconnect anything alarm related... if you are handy, look for a YELLOW wire coming off of your ignition, if it is cut anywhere, re-connect it, that is your starter wire...

If you hear a click while turning the key this would indicate low charge in battery any reading under 12 on a tester would have trouble starting other than that loose battery leads have you tried jumping if it starts with a jump this would indicate battery.

Battery wont jump start

possible but my money is on a bad battery. have a load test done on the battery. I suspect that the over heating problem is not completely fixed as water pumps will still pump water as long as they can be turned . Probably all that was done was to tighten the drive belt . Unless the pump seal was worn out and you were loosing coolant.. Clicking noise when trying to start is bad connection or dead battery.

Starter clicks does not start

Usually a bad battery connection or bad battery is what causes this. Make sure the cables are clean and properly connected. If so and the car still won't start see if you can jump start the car. If it starts go immediately and get a new battery. Also, most auto parts stores will check your battery to confirm it needs replacing.

My 2003 nissan will not start. the engine turns over but it won't start or it acts like it about to start and cuts off. i know i need a new battery. could there be a problem with my starter

Then replace the battery first, yes, but if the engine stops turning over the starter may have a problem as well. Start with one thing at a time though so you narrow down what the exact problem is and don't replace more than is necessary. If it was just the starter having a problem often you'd hear a noise from it like a spinning sound or clicking sound but the engine wouldn't move.

My gauges work but it wont turn over i dont hear any noise from the starter

Three possibilities I think:
First is weak battery. There may be enough juice to light the gauges but it takes power to turn an engine.

Second, bad solenoid. The solenoid is a relay which closes the high current circuit that delivers the cranking power to the starter motor. If you hear clicking in the engine compartment (not the starter) when you turn the ignition switch on it is probably the solenoid engaging and disengaging. However if the battery is weak it won't turn the starter motor. If the solenoid is clicking look at the battery first. The solenoid could be bad but the clicking indicates it's trying to work and there just may not be enough juice to turn over the engine.

Third possibility is the starter motor itself is dead. You have to answer some questions for yourself. Is this an old, neglected car or one that has been taken care of? I would be looking at battery. Can you jump start it? If yes then weak battery is the likely problem. If the car and battery are relatively new and in good condition you should suspect the charging system, that is, the alternator. Did this happen all of a sudden on a car that was running fine recently or has the car been sitting idle for weeks/months.Eliminate the easy stuff.
Clean battery terminals?
Good battery connections and ground?
Try jump start - if yes then follow up battery/charging system. If no start then try to hear for solenoid clicking. If jump start does nothing -figure the solenoid first. If it sounds like solenoid is kicking in but engine does not turn then the starter is looking a little guilty. Jump starting will answer a lot of questions. If the car is really dead then the car that is jumping may have to be connected and revved up a couple minutes to juice up the dead battery enough to turn the starter over. If it turns over a little during the jump start but just barely then you should figure your battery is bad.

Car wont start, lights will come on and radio and windows. doesn't appear to be battery, but it also wont jump off either. is this the starter. makes no noise what so ever when you turnt he key

This exact same thing happened to me, it can be a number of problems. You might not have enough battery charge to get the car going since the fuel pump in this car is electronic, my car did not start but when i took it to a mechanic thinking the battery was perfect because lights and all were on they jump started it and it started then immediately died, i also had a choke pull off failure, leaks in my carburetor, and the float was to heavy causing flooding. 185 dollars later and a rebuilt carburetor my car had a smooth idle and turned on immediately after turning ignition. but then to find out my alternator was bad hence the battery only having enough power for the radio and lights.so in short try jumping the car even though the battery seems good, check your carb or get it checked by a mechanic, then check if your alternator is ok. if i waited for two days without attempting to start car then trying it would start if i held the ignition and pushed the gas pedal down until it started. (see if thats the case for you) my guess is you carb, battery, and alternator.
