00 Avenger died in high water and now only clicks wont start

During yesterdays rain storm my son drove his car into some high water (12") enough to kill the engine. Pushed it out and it would not start. It just clicks. Checked the battery and it appears good. I though it might need to dry out but a day later its doing the same. Could it be the starter solenoid? If so where is it?

I won't turnover. Just clicks like the battery is dead (dead cells). Tried jumping it and still the same. Is the Soleniod positioned where any of the wires could have been knocked off. The water was below the bottom of the door.

Yes the air cleaner is very wet. If it's hyd locked, what are my opions.

The clicking is likely the solenoid trying to engage the starter. The water doesn't have to be that high to be drawn into the engine. When the car enters the water, the water flies up all over the place and all it would take is a few ounces to lock the engine. Pop the hood open and check to see where the air intake is. Sometimes they go into a wheel well or part of the inner body work to draw cool air and this is a prime spot for water intrusion. Take the cover off the air filter, a quick check here will reveal water in the air filter housing if this has happened.

It is possible that the engine inhaled some water and it is now hydraulically locked. You may want to remove the spark plugs and try cranking it over to see if water shoots out the plug holes. If so, change the oil also.

As I said before, crank the engine over with the plugs out, the water will shoot out, replace the plugs. It should start up after that, then change the oil as it will have water in it as well.

Which engine is this? Just wondering if it's a V6 the rear plugs may be very difficult to change, you could try doing just the front three and then try bumping it over very gently, if you force it you can blow the headgaskets or break pistons

It is more likely the starter -- it was wet when it was next started and it shorted.

I'm not familiar with that particular starter, but the solenoid is most likely either under the hood near the battery or on the starter. The red (+) battery cable will be attached to it. If you follow that cable, you'll find the solenoid/relay.

Just bought a 2013 dodge avenger, literally yesterday. Test drove fine twice,, drove all over town for license and registration, multiple erands. No problems. I got to work and went to leave for lunch and was introduced to the no bus code. Left me stranded the very day i purchased it,, only 25000 miles. Is this problem simple enough to weather or is this the brightest red flag to take it back?

Just purchased a 94 Sunbird SE for my son (today) Started fine. Drove for 15 minutes. Shut it down and it sat for 1 hr. Started again after registration and insurance. Drove for 10 minutes. Stopped once...

Take it back to where you got it and make them refund your purchase price. If they refuse and you finianced it go to them, There a law called "The Lemon Law" that makes it unlawful to sell something like that. Sounds like you sure bought one. Don't do anything to it just get hold of the place where you bought it and tell them to come get their junk out of your yard! dhgill1949
