What year is the vehicle ? Most of instrument cluster gauge info. is sent to the cluster over serial data network , control module communication network . The fuel level sending unit in the fuel tank is a input to the PCM / ECU - engine computer . The engine computer sends this info. to the instrument cluster's microprocessor which controls the fuel gauge stepper motor . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop before you make thing's worse. Messing with wrong wire's will make your vehicle non functional .
Hi Paul,If you can unplug the fan connector, and use jumper wires from the battery, the fan should spin. if not,it's the fan that's faulty.if it spins w/12 volts applied, trace the wiring. Best O' Luck
It is the sending unit, usually the veryable resister and arm. Remove and replace sending unit. It is , unfortunately, located inside of the fuel tank. To confirm gage operation reverse wiring to the guage and it will reverse the guage, confirming tha the gauge.is ok.
