SOURCE: How do I replace the batter in my 2001 bmw 330xi

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION :

CAUTION :

  • Do not disconnect the battery when the engine is running. If you do so, the ensuing voltage surge will damage the vehicle's on-board electronics.
  • Do not make any modifications in the wires to the positive terminal. If you do so, the protective function of the safety battery terminal is no longer ensured. Repair and disposal must be performed by trained technicians only.
When removing the battery, disconnect the cable on the negative terminal first, then the cable on the positive terminal. Loosen the center adjusting screw on the battery retaining strap (use the screwdriver included with the on-board tool kit) and disconnect the strap.

When installing a battery, connect the positive terminal first, then connect the negative terminal.

CAUTION : When installing a battery, be sure that it is mounted properly and that the retaining bracket is installed with the center adjustment screw. If this is not done, the battery will not be adequately secured in case of an accident.

For me, the electronic ID sequence on the key isn't recognized in the ignition.. it still manually and remotely unlocks doors, but won't start the car. The spare key (which stopped remotely unlocking doors a while back) CAN start the car...

The noise is coming from the starter solenoid. The plunger is acting but the Starter Solenoid Contacts are burnt. In some cases we replace the solenoid contacts and the plunger. All have 1/8" thick copper contacts.
The other options are, replace the solenoid, or the starter with a rebuild one.

Stick or automatic? Either way, clutch or transmission cables out of adjustment or bad clutch/transmission most likely, have to bring it in to a transmission shop to be properly diagnosed.

Wont start 2003 bmw 330xi

Remove battery terminals and clean both posts and terminals
with sandpaper until you see shiny metal. The black coating is lead sulphate which has a high resistance to current flow both into and out of the battery. Also check the battery in you key as the immobiliser may not be reading it.

My 2003 BMW 330xi won't start. There is absolutely nothing, not even a click. Battery is fine, and jumping it did nothing. Had the solenoid replaced last year.

Get a DTC scanner and see what it says...in the meantime, check that fuel pump relay and fuel pump. The humming sound is probably the heater blower motor or part of the HVAC system winding down after disconnecting from power.

2003 BMW CI Convertable Radio/CD Problem

Had the same problem with my '03 330xi. Navigation worked fine but radio and CD did not work at all. I opened the fuse box located in the glove compartment to check the three fuses associated with the navigation system and radio. #7, #39, and #41. All three fuses were intact so I put them back in. I then put the key into the ignition, turned it to position 2 and miraculously the radio came to life. I guess it acted as some type of reset?
