Question about 2008 Toyota Highlander

1 Answer

Right after my 2008 had its recent oil change (impeccably maintained) the numbers on on-board computer changed dramatically. Mileage range went from 370+ down to 300, and mpg went from 20 down to 11! Yesterday spent $400 on tune-up, Service just shakes their heads saying they have no idea and they'd have to do some very expensive check of everything. They adamantly suggest it's my driving, or that computer has to "reset" itself. After fill-up this morning, cruising range read 298. I put 125 highway miles on every work day. I depend on those readouts, and my driving hasn't changed. I've researched this for hours and can't find anything. Help?

SOURCE: 2005 Prius change in MPG after dealer service

What was the weight of the oil that was put into the engine when it was changed? Prius engines are VERY PICKY about the proper weight of the engine oil. Trust me. I see this quite often. The wrong weight oil can do bizzare things, and def lower your mileage. Something you can check: Take off the tube leading to the throttle body, and look down into the intake. Do you see any oil laying in the intake manifold? If so, you DEF have the wrong weight oil. This will NOT set a Check Engine light, either. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Cruise goes off when left or right signal is used.

you may need to change your signal/cruise control device. You may try an auto recycling center.
Remove the positive wire from the battery
remove screws at the back of the airbags. Don't worry, you disable them when you remove power,
With a socket 1/2in drive and maybe an 18 or 20 remove steering wheel
Once the wheel is remove you should see your signal/cruise device.
You could go to your local auto store and buy a book or online and it will help with the procedure

Hi, I'm not very familiar with these vehicles, however changing the oil shouldn't make a negative difference to the economy. Is it possible on your vehicle that 'Sequential sport shift' or the 'Mode select transmission' buttons could have been tampered with? Certainly any transmission or performance enhancements would have a negative impact on the MPG immediately.
I can't think of any other reasons at the moment.....

Oil type for my 2002 firebird

You can use 5w30 - 5w20 - or 10w30 depending on the air temp and your mileage.
Low mileage engines can use the lower weight. Hot weather or high mileage engines can use the higher weight.

How to reset service reminder alarm on Toyota aurion 2008?

I am not familiar with that model but most Toyotas reset like this. Tune the key off. Pess and hold the odo/trip reset button while you turn the key to the run position (do not start the engine). The odometer should change to all dashes which will disappear one at a time then change to all zeros and then back to the mileage. Release the button as soon as the mileage is displayed. Sometimes the trip A needs to be displayed before you turn off the key to start. Your owners manual should have this info as well.

How can I improve gas mileage in my 2008 Saturn outlook? It has 36500 miles so far. Horrible on gas. Any ideas. I really haven't done tune up yet.

Habit, A good Habit. 36,500 mile 1.Change oil and use the recommended wieght. 2. Maintain tire pressure and keep it at a proper inflation,(uses the setting on the door) or 32PSI, .3. Drive properly no heavy foot and hard acceleration. 4. Dont ride the brakes, 5. Maintance keep a maintance schedule. 6. The real secret of improving gas mileage, Dont uses it when you dont have to. and plan your trip and your route ,avoid heavy traffic. and that is it . By the way your a 3.6ltr , a 1.6 ltr. will always out save you.

After a recent oil change the valves( I assume ) began tapping loudly in my 2000 Concorde. The engine has been burning / using oil at an increased rate between these regular changes. 88,000 current...

Your car is old & has a fair amount of use on it. I would suggest using a thicker oil or higher viscosity oil such as 5w40 or15w40 in the summer. Valve seals dry out & begin leaking as the car gets older, piston rings allow more blow by also. The heavier weight oil will reduce the amount of oil loss. You might try Wynn's oil supplement or STP at your next oil change. This will also help. There is not an immediate need to worry. Good luck!

How do I replace the distrubuter cap?

Can you describe in more detail? Do you mean the 5th terminal on the distributor is actually sparking out? If so do you have any oil leaks surrounding the distributor?

If you can answer this I can probably help:

Cars mileage?

Last time the rotor button was and distr cap was changed?

Have you ever tugged on the spark plug wires while they were warm (a big no no)?

Any previous maintainance which has been recently performed?
