causes could be - Faulty Vacuum hoses damaged
- Faulty Air Pump inoperative
- Air bypass solenoid harness is open or shorted
- Air bypass solenoid circuit poor electrical connection
- Air bypass solenoid leaking/blocked or stuck open/closed
- Air diverter valve leaking/blocked or stuck open/closed

An air pump is used on the vehicle to lower tail pipe emissions on start-up. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) grounds the Air pump relay control circuit which energizes the Air pump. The PCM also grounds the Air combination valve vacuum control solenoid circuit, which energizes the Air vacuum control solenoid. Vacuum is then applied to both Air combination valve diaphragms which opens the shut off valves. The PCM enables both circuits simultaneously when Air system operations id desired. When the AIR system is active, then Air pump forces fresh air into the exhaust stream in order to accelerate catalyst operation. The AIR combination valves replace the conventional check valves. When the AIR system is inactive the shut off valves prevent air flow in either direction.

Seems like air is seeping in but also leaking oil on the headers could this be cause of the gasket on the valve covers

Yes, a bad gasket would be the cause of the oil leaking out, but has nothing to do with any air getting in. There is no vacuum under the valve cover. Change the valve cover gasket and check the intake manifold and the vacuum hoses coming from it for vacuum leaks (air getting sucked in).

I have a 07 impala with the 3.5 motor and i am getting three diffetent codes. P0411, p0449 and p0455. I disconnected the battery and the engine lite went off for one day and its back on again. The car is...

Your best bet take it to a qualified repair shop . It takes special tool's to diagnose evaporative emission system's .
DTC P0411 : Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Incorrect Air Flow Detected
DTC P0449: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Solenoid Control Circuit
DTC P0455: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Large Leak

745 bmw il 2002 idles rough

This is usually caused by the crankcase vent valves leaking air. These valves are round and sit on top of the front of each valve cover at the front. The diaphragm leaks and causes a vacuum leak and the car runs rough.

Timing chain broke and bent valves in my 202 pontiac grand am, all has been replaced and now cylinder #3 has no compression

Put #3 cylinder in firing position then put air pressure in that cylinder and remove the oil cap. If air comes out throttle body the intake valve is leaking. If air comes out the tail pipe the exhaust valve is leaking. If air comes out where the oil cap came off the piston is leaking.

How do i fix p1130 AND P 1440 code on my 2000 Nissan maxima? It takes about 5-6 minutes to crank up.

P1130 Swirl Control Valve Circuit Malfunction - With Automatic Transmission Possible Causes
  • Check for air leaks in the Air Induction system (e.g., in the intake manifold)
  • Check for leaks or looseness in hoses and tubes between the intake manifold, vacuum tank and swirl control valve actuator
  • Check for leaks or looseness in the hoses between the air cleaner assembly and the swirl control valve vacuum check valve
  • Crankshaft position sensor (REF) signal problem
  • MAF sensor has failed (it may be dirty or contaminated)
  • One-way check valve has failed
  • Swirl control valve actuator has failed (it may be damaged or sticking)
  • Swirl control valve control connector is damaged (check pins for damage)
  • Swirl control valve circuit is open, shorted to ground or shorted to voltage
  • Swirl control valve has failed
  • PCM has failed
  • Throttle position sensor has failed
  • Vacuum tank has failed

P1440...EVAP Control System (Small Leak)
Check your fuel cap & reset code,

Good luck, hope this helps,,,

Possible causes - Harness or connectors (EGR volume control valve circuit is open or shorted.)
- EGR volume control valve stuck closed
- EGR volume control solenoid valve
- Dead (Weak) battery
- EGR passage clogged
- Exhaust gas leaks Possible solution - Clean EGR Valve
- Repair EGR harness or connector
- Replaced EGR volume control solenoid valve
- Replaced EGR volume control valve
Code P0171- Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 1 Possible causes - Intake air leaks
- Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty
- Injectors may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Mass air flow sensor may be faulty
- Incorrect PCV hose connection Possible solution Dirty air filter of faulty air flow sensor are common causes of the problem P0174- Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 2 Possible causes - Intake air leaks
- Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty
- Injectors may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Mass air flow sensor may be faulty
- Incorrect PCV hose connection Possible solution Dirty air filter of faulty air flow sensor are common causes of the problem.
