The car started with the engine light coming on. Then the battery light would come on and off. Then the gas hand started going lower than what gas was in it. Then after that you would have to press the gas peddle to get it to start, was making a ticking sound when you would press the gas, then it over heated and now wont start at all. It wanted to turn over but just wont crank! had to pull home. Checked spark plugs and they work great. The battery just wont keep charge and put several in it. Drains them as fast as you put them in but the alternator seemed fine. The oil isn't milky so we dont think it's the head that cracked.

I see that you replaced battery, coil, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Did you or do you have a check engine light or SES light on? If you did not I agree with the problem being Anti theft which includes a replacement key not having a transponder chip. BUT at the same time it could be something as simple as dirty battery post or bad battery cables, since sometimes it does start. I RECOMMEND CHECKING THE BATTERY CABLES FIRST. let me know if this works for you.
have someone turn the ingnition on ( without starting the car ) while you listen by the gas tank. if you dont hear a buzzing sound coming from the tank then the fuel pump needs to be replaced. if you do hear a buzzing then your problem is most likely spark issue. pull a spark plug out of the motor plug it back into its wire and have someone turn the car over and check to see if it sparks. is the check engine light on?
sounds like you may need an alternator... theres not a short< your just losing battery power and the steering wheel being hard to turn is probably your engine cutting out... also it could be a seized up pully or a/c compressor...
THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION BUT I CAN SAY IT'S TYPICAL FOR TAURUS. I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR THREE YRS WITH MY DASH LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE AND NOTHING GOES WRONG. I KNOW "MANY" OTHERS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. GAS CAP CAN CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON IN OLDER MODELS. PROBABLY WHY THEY MADE A MORE SPECIFIC ONE.
GOOD LUCK...I COULD NEVER FIND A REASON.
close, there is an emergeny fuel shutoff switch hidden in the trunk of these things burried under the carpeting, you probably have something resting on it OR water got on it and is shorting it out, my friend had a 92 taurus 3L and the switch was in the trunk, 14 inches off the trunk floor on the drivers side wall, should be a small **** in the carpeting you can push your finger through and feel it.
does your head lights come on? if the headlights do not come on the battery cable are bad broken in side the cable ends or dirty at the other end check both pos and neg cables. If the lights come on replase the starter.
