My shifter is stuck in park

Unfortunally this shifter getting stuck in park is a common problem on the Navigator. The Brake Interlock Switch goes bad on the shifter and needs replacing; to remove most of the center console and to get to the switch.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

My gear shift is stuck in park. The car starts up fine, but shifter wont budge.

the fuse is bad for shift lock solenoid. Read owner manual section on brak-shift interlock. Check fuse for nbrake lights. Brake lights work.

Owner manual has emergency by pass procedure. I think you turn key to OFF and then shift to neutral and start car then. Next time in park, you have to repeat.

STUCK IN PARK. WILL NOT SHIFT

Your vehicle is equiped with a Brake Shift Interlock which means if the brake is not pressed the shifter will not go out of park. That switch could be bad. You can bypass this shift by using the following procedure. I hope this helps and good luck.

My 2003 aviator gear is locked in park and will not move

check to see if your brake lights work. No? check your brake light fuse. OK? change your brake light switch. Your brake light switch powers the brake / shifter interlock. There is usually a way to bypass the interlock- check your owners manual for bypass button location ( its usually next to the shifter)

GEAR SHIFTER WONT GET OUT OF PARK TO OTHER GEARS

Had a problem with not being able to move shifter. Took the vehicle to Lincoln dealership to have checked out. Just knew it was going to cost me big money well it cost me $1.45. The problem was fuse number 16 if this fuse is bad the vehicle will not shift. I hope this info will help.

Gear shifter

Sounds like just the brake-shift interlock getting stuck. I would try using the override to get the shifter working again, then use the parking brake to keep it from getting jammed in the future.

The parking brake will reduce the pressure on the gearbox, especially when parked on an incline. If the interlock continues to jam, you probably do need to have the shifter replaced.
