I would suggest bringing your car to the local Ford dealer and have them repair whatever is necessary to make your car safe. The better thing to have done, and. Out likely cheaper in the long run, is to repair the fuel pump properly the first time instead of creating a band aide repair.

SOURCE: started car running on petrol for 5 minutes with

could be number of problems but often this is caused by valve on the inlet manifold which is electricaly operated and then it allows the gas in but it is also vacumn sensitive so a perished rubber pipe could cause it not to sense the vacumn .best advice without seeing it is to visit a mechanic that is conversant with LPG conversion

1988 wellcraft with 350 magnum alpha engine it starts easy but then cuts off ??

Since it starts, look to the fuel side. Pull the dipstick first, smell for fuel. Smell it, replace the fuel pump if it is on the side of the block. Electric fuel pump, check pressure first. about 11 PSI. Good, go to the carburetor. Being an 88 and a boat. I don't think you have throttle body injection in it. Tap the carb where the fuel goes in (Hammer works just fine). This may release the float. I fit starts and runs. You have two options, Pull the carb and rebuild it or replace the carb. Hitting knocks the float loose, it will stick again.

Fuel pump on vg holen ute not working. Relays and fuses fine I'm thinking its packed it in. How can u find out for sure without geting stuck in and probally have to drop the tank??? Thanks. Ryan

When I have to get at a fuel pump in the tank off my car . I take out the back seat and cut an access panel , so I do not have to drop the tank. You can also cut and access panel if it is in the truck of the vehicle .
Drill a couple of holes carefully ( make a stop on the drill bit by using a piece of pipe ; make sure that the end of the drill bit is sticking out just enough to go through the tin and not hit the tank . I use a vise grips to locked on to the pipe with my left hand and drill in the right . ) , take a tin snips to cut the hole to the size you need , then pull the pump and replace it . then take a piece of sheet metal and a tube of seam sealer ( That you buy at auto parts store ) . Make sure you use the seam sealer to keep the exhaust out !!!!! Good luck and Remember that once you have the hole , you can check the wires at the fuel pump ; to see that it is getting power when you turn the key , before pulling the pump .

Where is the panel for the fuel sending unit in back of the vehicle?

Yes, remove back seat, it is under the passenger side, just pull back the carpet. It is a circular cover held on by 6 screws. Be sure to disconnect your negative battery cable before performing any work on the fuel pump/ sending unit assembly.

Turns over but wont start

is this diesel or petrol.if diesel then look to your fuel pump.under it is a plug .remove this and drain what will be water on the bottom of it.only a small amount then refit.now pump the fuel up to it is very hard .then get someone to turn the engine over .as you keep pumping should then start.that is done due to air in the system. if petrol you need a spark plug tester.check the coil has a spark .then check the leads at the spark plugs are getting a spark .then check the plugs for a spark .smell them .do you smell fuel on them .if so change the plugs.

Petrol smell in side the car

Possible there is leak or a joint fault in the fill cap, the fuel tank filling hose clamp , the fuel line to the fuel pump , fuel filter.
Now since petrol is highly volatile a small gap can make the gas smell into the cabin. Please start your check from the tank to the pump and the return fuel pipe, checking for leaks which can be easily tightened or a faulty fuel line changed.

Nissan skyline 1988 .Noticed a petrol smell in and around back of car. looked underneath and there is petrol leaking out of the top of the petrol tank. Any suggestions please

A lot of Nissan models have an inspection cover in the trunk that you can remove to get at the fuel pump in the gas tank. If not there, perhaps under rear seat, but should be in trunk. Locate it, remove it and have a look for possibility of broken or cracked piece of fuel line hose attached to pump, or look around for other source of your leak. Careful with trouble light near fumes!! Use a good flashlight if you can. Be sure to relieve system pressure before doing anything on fuel lines if that's the problem.
