Question about GMC Savana

1 Answer

The ignition in our car was working normally, until I went to start it today. The key turns all the way with no spring back where it would usually start and now it appears to be be stuck in accessory mode as the dash board lights are all on and the steering lock will not activate at all, nor will the central locking on the key work, so we have unplugged the battery till we find a solution... The car is an AU Holden VX Commodore not listed with you Can you help??

Sounds like your GMC has some Binding of the rod that goes from and or/Key lock assembly to the actual switch ... I would take the trim off the column and/or drop it and check for obstuctions ... If this vehicle has a lot of dust it could be the lock assembly itself (it most likely is, because you said it was sudden, if it was the rod I suspect someone would have had to fiddle around that area first), you may try to flush it out with compressed air

Bought a clicker for my son's used 2003 Hyundai Tiburon (base) we just purchased. He keeps the clicker, I went to open the door with my key, and the car went into crazy mode. I put the key in th

It happens a lot for the Tiburon apparently....what you have to do is put the key in the ignition whilst the horn is going nuts, turn the key to the "on" position and wait a minute or so for the horn to stop blowing. Then press the "unlock" button on the fob until you see the turn signals flash. try turning the key over and see if it will start up. If it doesn't, try again, same thing only turn the key all the way off and try starting as normal again. I can't remember if it's the "unlock" or "lock" button you're supposed to press, but one of them does it. Test it while in the car and see if it locks when you hit lock on the fob.....oh, and also make sure all the doors are shut while you are doing this. It recalibrates the fob to the car's computer and resets your security system and keyless entry.

Starter/solenoid/ignition bypass?

I think what your co-worker is doing by touching the solenoid while the car is on is quite dangerous especially when it is running. I understand the need to avoid putting off the car but you will just have to get your own towing accessories and truck if you keep going on like this.
My advice would be to take your car to the garage and fix the problem once and for all.
Keep me updated!

My son has a 2003 malibu, with about 23,000 miles. Has had no problems until last friday (4 days ago) on a trip he stopped for gas, when he got back in wouldn't start, engine tries to turn but will not...

check that the theft system light is not flashing on you when trying to start it up. if it is, then it's not going to start since the car is in security mode. put the key in the ignition and turn it until the instrument panel lights light up and just leave it like that for 10 minutes until the theft system light goes off. turn the key back to off(don't take it out) and try to start it. it's a pain, espesially when you're in a hurry. to get it repaired at the dealer costs about $600-$800. I had mine done for $800.

Car immobilisor

you might be able to reprogram the key, but you can only do this if you have two keys, what you need to do is put one key in the ignition turn the ignition on ( not over ) put the key that needs reprogramming into the drivers door and lock the vehicle with the key not the button, wait 10 seconds, remove the key, then press the unlock on the fobb, turn ignition off, remove key from ignition, put in the key that you just unlocked the car with and turn ignition do not turn over, turn off ignition, remove key wait 10 seconds, then put key back in then you should be able to turn it over as normal, if that does not work you will have to take key to be reprogramed at the main dealer...hope this helps
