You float prob has a leak i got a 94 and mine allways moves ive just learned to deal with it

if you disconnect the wire at the sensor or down from the sensor were you can get to it the gage should register empty and if you disconnect the ground it should register full. if nothing happens then the gage on the dash is bad, if gage moves the fuel level sensor in the tank is bad.

2005flhti fuel gage just quit working


switch wires on gage.. If it now moves in the other direction, is it sending unit that went bad.(located inside of the fuel tank) If not the gage itself went bad.

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy with apparent electrical issues. It will sometimes start ok but not move. Other times it will start and drive just fine and then the Cruz won't work and all the gages are...


im not an expert but it could be your fuel injectors when they are not spraying enough gas you have to give it some gas for it not to die but the gages going out that could be a shortened fues or try giving it a tune up with seafoam you can look it up on youtube if you dont know how... just look up seafoam tune ups

Fuel gage stuck on full


Either there is a short in the fuel sender wiring or the sender in the tank is bad.The actual gauge is rarely bad.Good luck.


Else
The float affixed to your fuel pump in your gas tank is stuck.

It tells the dash you ALWAYS have a full tank.
You have to drop the tank, PB Blast/WD40 the float, get it to drop down.
Finally
Your unit in the tank is bad. Pull it out and move it up and down while someone looks at the gauge. If doesn't work, buy a new one. They are not that expensive.

you need to have the wiring checked for short to ground then if the wiring is ok i would replace your fuel tank sending unit(fuel pump assembly)

My toyota rav 4 year 1997, the fuel indicator is not working (dead, even if I pour full tank), what could be the problem


The fuel gage or the fuel sender unit inside fuel tank.
the sender unit is hard to check because is in the fuel tank.
the gage is easier, remove the cluster with the key on connect and disconnect the 2 connectors in the back of the cluster if the gage moves the problem is the sender unit inside the fuel tank.

Everything turns on and the car will turn over, and over...but does not start. I can smell gas, so I don't think that it is the fuel pump as i had it replaced. Its getting spark.


ir its getting spark and you think its getting fuel the only other things to look for is for fuel injector pulse, that is that the fuel injectors are actually pulsing the fuel into the cylinders. and compression, a compression check will verify the mechanics of the engine are running properly look for a reeding of about 125-150 with the first hit on the gage being over 50psi.

I have a 94 chevy s10 and my gas reads empty while i drive.but when i shut off the truck the gauge moves to different readings.


Is......the problem--"the gas gage reads empty when there is fuel in the tank. OR, The gage moves when the key to turned off ?

If it's the first,
You will need to test the gage and through process of elimination, determin if the Sending unit inside the fuel tank has gone Bad.

If its the second ? - Electrical gauges will move when powered down. Normal

Testing the gauge may not be easy - just depends on your ability.
It is a simple 2-wire gauge circuit, when disconnect (usually need the fuel tank) the gage reads in one direction (either full or empty)
then when shorted-the gage reads in oppisite direction.

Of course you must select the correct wires or you may short out the wrong circuits!! Most GM vehicles use a purple wire & black wire.

A quick method I have used to check the in-take part of the gauge is this.
1st. know there is gas - 1/2 tank works best.
2nd driver's door open, key in run position, engine not running.
3rd gently lift up on the door then let if come back down, gently.
just enough to cause the gas to slosh around.
4th - keep an eye on the gas gage, a bad sending unit in the take will show up as a "twitchy" needle.

Of course, if the gage never leaves empty - sloshing won't work.
I have a known good sending unit I can plug into the vehicle and simulate different levels of fuel - if the gas gage works, I know the problem is in the tank.

I have a peugeot 406, V.reg 1999 model. all the dials are fluctuating up and down and the fuel gage reads empty even when full?? Any idea's??


I don't know this car, but it could be that an intermittent short in the fuel gage doesn't give enough time for the fuel needle to move, but does effect all the other dials intermittently. Or maybe the instrument panel has a ground wire that is intermittent. Good luck.
