98 volkswagon cabrio convertable gls battery & alarm trouble

I had a simular problem with my car nto starting, but the alarm didn't have issues just the headlights and the radio not turning off. I replaced the ignition switch and the problem was fixed for a while until the ignition switch malfunctioned again. The ignition switch is a cheap plastic part that connects the key to the engine, and has a tendency to break. Maybe this will help. Btw, I have a 1998 and mine is not starting well, do you know anything about #3 relays? I think I may need to replace it, so that my car will start and not putter to a stop randomly while driving. The problem only arises when the car is not yet warm. Amy ideas?

My husband opened the car door and left it open for a couple mins. when he returned the car was dead. No juice at all. The car has been running great up until now.

Sounds like it,s time for a new battery. Check the cable connections first then get a jump from some one. If the car continues to run then dies as soon as the jumpers are removed you need to check your charging system Put a volt meter across the two posst of the batery while it is not reading it should read a minimum of 12 1/2 volts or more and around 13 1/3 -14 volts running. If the voltage is the latter you need a new battery. And yes they "can" go that quickly!

Same exact problem

Okay it could be one of 2 things. A) you are leaving something on in the car such as lights or leaving a door open a little. B) you have a bad alternator. To check it once you have a complete charged battery, start the car. Let it run fora few mins. while the car is running disconnect the battery. (this is completely safe) If the car turns off you have a bad alternator. Please let me know the outcome.
