Question about 2003 Volvo C70

Whining noise when trying to turn over the engine of my 2003 C70 convert. It is a continuous whine and no indication it wants to fire up at all...Help!

I have experienced some 'pinking' recently especially when driving up hills but generally the car has operated fine. It has just experienced this problem for the first time and thought it was something to do with the coil pack or could it be cam belt??

On some cars, a low battery voltage will only spin the starter, but not enough to engage the engine. Have the battery checked. Try a jump start from a good battery in a running car.

Testimonial: "Thank you for the response Mike. In the end I called out recovery and the engine was flooded due to a very short start stop of the car earlier in the day. The mechanic called it 'bore wash' Basically if the car is started up and moved a very short distance and turned off and left fuel continues to flow flooding the engine although there was no indication of the smell of fuel. Apparently this is common!"

If the car has a lot of miles and the serpintine belt has not been replaced pull the cover off the belt ,and inspect the belt for damage or breakage. your lucky if you get 150,000 miles out of the belt .when replacing the belt make sure to ask for the gator back belt ,if you don't like squeaking . it's.only a couple dollars more.

Why does it turn over making a whining noise and does not start?

Try cranking the engine with the belt removed.
You may have another pulley that is locked up.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire 5 speed won't start. Replaced spark plugs and checked ignition coil (fine). Sounds like it wants to turn over but makes a "whining" noise. Please assist. Thank you!

Is the engine turning over with the key in the start position? If the engine is not spinning over and you hear a whining noise, the starter is not engaging the flywheel. If the engine is turning over with the starter engaged, the engine has most likely jumped time that creates low or no compression which results in the whining noise.

Makes whining noise

This could be a stuck Bendix gear. The Bendix gear is the gear that engages with the flywheel on the engine when you start the car, and if it hasn't retracted it will whine.

Check with a local garage, but do so soon.

Whining noise from front of 2003 impala.higher

Apparently the whine is car speed related and not engine speed. I'm surprised that you didn't say anything about checking the wheel bearings?

Whining in the engine

I had the same whining noise, but after a minute or two it would go away. It turned out to be my water pump. It wouldnt turn first thing in the morning and the belt was just running through the pulley, (causing the whining noise). This may not be your problem, but it is easy to check. Just pop your hood and see if the fan is turning.
