You will need to post your problem in detail in order for someone to begin to help you. You basically just posted a statement. This "rough sound" could be a loose wheel in the rear, a bad muffler, the radio wont play clear, the front axle sounds like its going to drop out etc etc see what I mean?

SOURCE: 2001 Nissan Maxima- runs rough, stalls when idle

Timing belt could have skipped a tooth.

Horrible vacuum leak could have started. Listen for suction noises when you raise the hood.

Someone could have poured sugar in your tank.

You could have put diesel in your tank instead of gas.

Could be a bad MAP sensor, TPS sensor, etc.

Need more details to be precise.

SOURCE: suddenly my 1998 nissan maxima is not starting

I have the same car, and when that happened to me it was the starter. It wasn't too hard to replace.

SOURCE: 2000 nissan maxima misfires on cold start repaced

Try spraying an aerosol oil around the intake manifold and around any vacuum lines and connections with the engine running. If you hear a change in the engine speed than you've got a vacuum leak. Thank you, Dana

SOURCE: my 2000 nissan maxima dies about 4 or 5 times when

If you're getting check engine light take it to Autozone and they'll read the code. On mine the Mass Air Flow sensor was the culprit. Engine codes suggested MAF, manifold vacuum leak, coils, injectors clogged. Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner did nothing. Ultimately I replaced each coil ($75 per cyl) but still conked out like yours. MAF cost $300 at the store, but found one online $97 took a gamble and replaced in 5 minutes. It really made a difference.

You might check the IAC valve, Idle Air Control valve. That lets the vehicle know where to idle especially when cold. Normally Air flow meter and O2 sensors will trigger a check engine light and set a code that allows the tech to try and diagnose the problem. Also, possibly check the Throttle body to make sure it is not clogged up and completely dirty inside, that too can cause issues. If this helps please give some thumbs up. Good luck.
