2000 Honda Accord SE - Automatic Tran - Car will not start

Screw came out of shifter handled and handle came off. I re-mounted the handled and replaced the screw. I then started the car and shifted the gears to make sure everything worked and everything was fine.
Went to leave later and the car would not start. At first dash lights came on but on longer. I pull the battery and had it tested and it showed good. I replaced the battery and re-installed it in the car. However car still does not start on dash lights or radio. But I do have inside lights, headlights and brake lights.

Thanks you advance for your help.

I have no dash lights at all to be able to see want lights are on. Also are you able to get codes without anything on?

  • mlgolfio May 10, 2009

When I connect the code reader i get a "No Link". I've tried several times with the same results.

I changed out the ignition switch but no luck--any other suggestions?

The ligher fuse is alright it still works. However since the battery was changed out don't you loose the codes? Could there be something tied to the shifter that could cause this to happen? Could the bake light switch cause this? I've replaced this once however it only cause the bake lights not to work and hard to shift.

You probally have a bad bendix in the starter.Which is most common. The bendix is the mechanism (inside the starter) which pushes the starter pinion gear outwards so it engages the flywheel ring gear.
I think its NOT the starter, since that would not keep the other lights from working.Terminals may be lacking proper conection, fuses..etc..Looking at the electrical diagram, there is a fuse under the dash (#9 PGM-FI, ECU, brake circuit) that can cause the starter not to start. It is a 7.5 amp fuse. Also , check this fuse : 80A fuse that sits at the front of the fuse block under the hood.

Hope I helped with the repair of your problem.
An Accept from you is how I get paid.
And a positive feed back tells me how I did with the repair.

yes you will need a code reader, the dash lights don't output codes. You can try Autozone or Kragen auto parts, they will read the codes for u, but post them back here, don't pay any attention to any info they give about the codes, they are not tech's and the definition's in those Chinese made code reader are notoriously incorrect.

1993 honda accord se with automatic transmission. car will not start. D4 is flashing. just ran 2 days ago.

D4 flashing? this may be the neutral safty switch, theres a selector switch that connects to the shifter, this switch lets you know what gear your in and also the compuetr. this sounds like it thinks its in d4 and will not allow the car to start. this is like the car is in drive and you are trying to start it. good day.

I need to remove the shifter handle on my 2000 firebird so i can adjust the link cable for the automatic trany. so can you help guide me through removing the shifter handle?

Hello: on the part of the handle facing the dash there will be a small piece of metal going across the shifter, this will be close to where the metal part of the shifter. Use a small flat blade screw driver and pull it out (toward the dash) once out the handle should come off(pull up)

The front of the handle has a large "U" clip. Use a screw drive and pry the clip out. It's a lot easier to do when the shifter is pulled all the way back to "1" or "2" but is doable in park still. The handle will then pull up. There will be a plastic piece in it that pushes down to release the lock in the shifter assembly. If when you push the plastic piece down it doesn't release the lock you will have to remove the shifter cover and take a look inside, to see what broke. It may require replacing the whole shifter assembly. You should be able to find the complete assembly used for fairly cheap.

Shifter stuck in Park

Next to the shifter (on drivers side) there is a small rubber plug. If you remove the plug and push the end of a key down in the hole, it will relase the shifter. I ended up taking mine in after having the same problem several times and it was pretty inexpensive to fix.

Exterior rear door handle on Honda Accord 2001

To Remove Door Panel on 2001 Honda Accord:

A: To remove the plastic piece with the door lock button and door handle connected to it:

1- Remove the screw in the middle located behind a plastic cover button
2- Push (slide) the whole assembly Forward (toward front of car)
Besides the screw, it is held in place by 3 hooks on the backside that hook into holes in the metal door frame
3- Now unhook handle from small metal bar going through door by pushing (toward door) plastic clip (blue?) off of the bar, then the bar will come out of the clip hole, thus releasing the handle.
4- Depress little grey button /bar (purple painted on it)on elec. connector to seperate connector, thus releasing door lock switch

Now the whole assembly (metal handle, door lock switch, and plastic piece) will come off door panel

B: The door is held on by 2-screws, 7-plastic snaps/plugs, and 1-plastic plug.

The screws are located: bottom of hand hold and the other behind the handle, both covered by little covers that have to be pryed off to access the screws.(hint: the screw with the built in spacer goes behind the handle when you are trying to reinstall)
The 7-plastic snaps: 3 across bottom and 2 on each side. Not visible, they are mounted to the inside of the panel.
The 1-plastic plug is visible at the upper front of the panel and is the same color as the surrounding trim

C: Take off the big plastic triangle piece above the door panel and behind the mirror. Pull/pry off. It has 2 snaps holding it on. one near bottom and one near the front.

D: Light lens prys off from bottom. Unscrew (1/4 turn) the light assembly with bulb still intact from backside of panel

E: Remove the Hand-Hold/window switch assembly:
