Question about 2008 Toyota Highlander
(This is the fourth time I've tried this!) After oil change my on-board computer display changed dramatically. Mileage range fropped from 370+ to 300. MPG went from 20 down to 11! I depend on these numbers for my daily work commute of 125 miles. Dealer service suggesting it's because of my driving. Please help!
Hi, I'm not very familiar with these vehicles, however changing the oil shouldn't make a negative difference to the economy. Is it possible on your vehicle that 'Sequential sport shift' or the 'Mode select transmission' buttons could have been tampered with? Certainly any transmission or performance enhancements would have a negative impact on the MPG immediately.
I can't think of any other reasons at the moment.....

What was the weight of the oil that was put into the engine when it was changed? Prius engines are VERY PICKY about the proper weight of the engine oil. Trust me. I see this quite often. The wrong weight oil can do bizzare things, and def lower your mileage. Something you can check: Take off the tube leading to the throttle body, and look down into the intake. Do you see any oil laying in the intake manifold? If so, you DEF have the wrong weight oil. This will NOT set a Check Engine light, either. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 19" FACTORY TOYO TIRES SHREDDING
Toyo®, Exclusive Tire of 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Limited Grade
September 20, 2007– CYPRESS, CALIFORNIA – Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corporation announced today that the Toyo® Open Country® A20 is the exclusive tire of Toyota’s all-new 2008 Highlander Hybrid, Limited grade. In addition, the Open Country® A20 is original equipment on several other models of the 2008 Toyota Highlander, both hybrid and gas.
The Open Country A20 achieved exceptional low rolling resistance performance making it ideal for the hybrid model. The tires were also specifically designed to reduce noise and improve both wet and dry braking for added safety.
Based on the model and trim level of the Highlander, the Open Country A20 comes in two sizes: P245/65R17 105S and P245/55R19 103S.
Toyo manufactures and distributes a complete line of replacement tires for high performance cars, luxury vehicles, light trucks and SUVs as well as tires for commercial trucks, buses and off-road and construction applications.
I'm surprised if it's so good at braking that it has not ripped my entire tire tread off as technicians say the treat is separating well before its time!
