SOURCE: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON P0171 FUEL TRIM BANK1 SYSTEM TO LEAN.

Hi. You need to clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
This is an easy job.
Get a can of throttle body or brake cleaner spray at your local auto parts store.

Open the hood, and locate the air filter box. follow the tube from the filter box towards the engine. Look for a small black box with 2 screws holding it to the air tube, Remove the wire connector and observe inside the sensor with a flashlight. You will see 2 small wires, and they will appear fuzzy or dirty. Spray the interior with the cleaner until the wires are nice and clean. Do not use compressed air, you will damage the sensor. Put it all back together and drive it.
This will def fix your issue. This is a vey common problem. If you do it yourself, you will save 70 + bucks.

Thanks for choosing FixYa, and a FIxYa rating for my assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Toyota Corolla Code P0171 Check Engine light

Code P0171 on Toyota Corolla Q: What could cause the code P0171 on 2002 Toyota Corolla? A: The code P0171 reads "System Too Lean (Bank 1)". This means that the air-fuel mixture coming in to the engine is too lean, or there is too much air and too little fuel. This could be caused by a number of reasons, such as bad airflow sensor, vacuum leaks, low fuel pressure, clogged fuel injectors, etc. To know exactly what caused the problem, your mechanic can do a few tests.
From my experience, the airflow sensor problems are fairly common; sometimes the sensor just gets dirty and gives false air flow readings causing lean condition. Again, your mechanic can test it.
If the airflow sensor is causing the lean condition, it will need to be replaced. If the sensor is just dirty, your mechanic may suggest to clean it (cleaning the airflow sensor is very delicate procedure) as a temporary solution - sometimes this could work.

97 grand marquis code P0171 bank left code with check engine light, what does that mean? also, went to start car today, turns over but no fire on the plugs at all. could this result from MAF sensor?

The MAF Sensor measures air flow into the engine
& is common to both banks or sides of the engine,so
when looking at fuel trim data you look at both banks
& remember that the maf is common to both

Your 171 is lean oxygen sensor code for bank #1,so either
a failed sensor,a slow sensor because you failed to change at
100,000 miles or a vacuum leak

A leaking injector will cause a rich condition & that report from the
O2 Sensor will cause the computer to drive fuel trim or pulse lean
as you have. So you need to do some testing & keep your thinking
cap on

Fuses never cause or fix any problems
They only open a circuit if it has too much current
flow & you don't replace a fuse, you go to wiring diagrams
to see what is on that circuit that would cause a fuse to fail
& resolve that issue

If you have no spark & no fuel injector pulse, then possibly a
crank sensor

I suggest you leave all the troubleshooting to a repair shop

Fuel pressure not correct? What could be the cause

You checked the fuel pressure? What is it. P0171 says system lean, this can be a fuel pressure issue or lack of it, it can be a defective O2 sensor or wiring or an engine vacuum leak at the intake manifold or any vacuum hose.

P0171 is a lean bank one code. It is usually always a vacuum leak and is usually not an O2 sensor or a MAF sensor. The first step shoul have been to check for vacuum leaks.

What engine do you have?

Engine check light on error code 1 is P0171 system too lean bank 1 error code 2 is P0174 system too lean bank 2

P0171 system too lean bank 1
P0174 system too lean bank 2
links to information on the codes

it means that the O2 sensors in your vehicle detected a lean condition in their respective banks. this could be caused by a dirty MAF (mass air flow) sensor or a vacuum leak downstream from the MAF sensor

sometimes you can clean the MAF with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner but be sure to take it off the vehicle first. be careful not to damage the MAF while spraying the cleaner, and allow it to dry completely before installing it on the vehicle.

Rough idle vibrates and po171 code service engine soon. jamesrowland9@aol.com

Hi, a Ford P0171 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 1, and P0174 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 2. These codes commonly occur on many Ford vehicles, and are set when the powertrain control module (PCM) sees the air/fuel mixture is running too lean (too much air, not enough fuel).
When the Check Engine Light comes on, either one of these codes, or both, may be found when a code reader or scan tool is plugged into the vehicle diagnostic connector. IF the vehicle is driven long enough, typically both codes will be set.
A P0171 lean code for bank 1 is the cylinder bank on the RIGHT (passenger) side of the engine on Ford vehicles with a V6 or V8 engine and rear-wheel drive.

A lean fuel condition may exist if the engine is sucking in too much air and/or the fuel system is not delivering enough fuel. If bad enough, a lean fuel condition may cause lean misfire, a rough idle, hesitation or stumble when accelerating, and/or poor engine performance.
Unmetered air can enter the engine through a vacuum leak, a dirty airflow sensor that is not reading airflow accurately, an EGR valve is not closing and is leaking exhaust into the intake manifold, an EGR valve that is allowing too much flow (because the EGR differential pressure sensor that monitors EGR flow is faulty and is under-reporting EGR flow).
If the problem is not enough fuel, the underling cause may be a weak fuel pump, restricted fuel filter, leaky fuel pressure regulator or dirty fuel injectors.

OBD2 "check engine lite" shows

Both codes are system too lean bank 1 & bank 2. First place to start is any obvious vacuum leaks. Look for broken, collapsed or missing vacuum lines. Check egr valve & intake manifold also.
