Do not remove the steering wheel. After removing the plastic around the column (the tilt wheel lever just pulls straight out, and there are two hidden screws holding the top plastic on, find them from the underside, they are reverse torx but you can use a 5.5 or 6 mm socket to remove them) there are two screws holding the switch in, the top one is easy, just a T25 on a driver, the lower one can be removed using just the T25 driver bit and a 1/4" wrench to turn it. Hold the bit into the head with your thumb and turn it with the wrench. The wiring is actually the more difficult part of the installation IMO, there is a 10mm bolt holding the junction box together, be sure to pull the blue retaining clips out from the housing. Do yourself a favor and remove the metal panel under the dash, 4 small sheet metal screws and 4 10mm bolts. Even for an amatuer mechanic, this should be ablout an hour job.

How do you change the dimmer/turn signal level in stering colum

most just push into the wiper switch.Disconnect battery negative First wait 3-5 minutes Then on the back side of steering wheel is are the retaining screws that hold the air bag to the steering wheel once removed disconnect wires and place pad side down then remove steering wheel, now you are looking at the air bag cable reel mark it position and remove without turning it. If installed wrong it will break. Remove lock plate then turn signal switch then you can see the handle nub with a small screwdriver pry nub out of wiper switch. and reassemble.

Turn signal switch replacement

you mean turn signal cam replacment
1 disconnect battery 2remove the hub or air bag on steering wheel (center Part of wheel) maybe two screws in the back of steering wheel remove first 3 remove horn button and steering wheel retaining nut then install steering wheel puller 15.99 at autozone. notice the steering wheel angle it only goes back on one way. 4 next shoulb a lock plate there is a retainer ring remove it with a lock plate retainer tool 8.99 use a pair of needle nose to remove ring dont bend out of shape. 5 now you can remove the turn cam two screws on selector and one screw on the hazard light switch then 3 screws on the cam you will need a # 2 and a #1 phillps for these screws. 6 disconnect power cord it probally goes down through column remove the knee plate to see wires by the pedals. 7 thread the new wire harness back down the column with a piece of bailing wire or equalivent. 8 reinstall all in reverse order.

My right turn signal flashes rapidly, and after turning it suppose to turn off itself but i have to turn off the signal manually. the left sometimes turn off itself.. how can i fix this? 98 buick century

when signal is rapid it useually means that a light is out. About your signal not turning it self off.
That is a defective indicator switch which useually means removal of steering wheel.

1998 buick century only high beams and turn signals work. No headlights. I have checked breakers, relays, fuses, power at headlight switch, power at headlight harness, all are good.

The Buick Century is equipped with a multi-switch. This switch is an all in one switch that controls your cruise control, windshield wipers and turn signals in one switch. This switch also controls dimming and brightening of your headlights. The dimmer switch is simple to replace, and all you need is a phillips head screwdriver to complete the task.

  1. Removing the Steering Column Shroud
    • Removing the dimmer switch starts at the steering column. To plan this task out, access the steering column by removing the screws holding the steering column shroud in place. This will expose the turn signal lever. Remove the lever by twisting it forward, and pulling it out of the switch.
    Removing the Dimmer Switch
    • The switch is held on by two screws and a wiring harness. The wiring harness can be removed by prying up on the locking tabs and pulling the connector out of the socket. The two screws can be removed with a phillips head screwdriver. The switch will slide out. To install a dimmer switch, be sure to repeat these steps in reverse order.
