Question about 1989 Suzuki Samurai

Suzuki samurai started shuttering under load.(driving hwy speeds) Seemingly from the transfer case, the stick vibrates. Could a short drive in L4 with the hubs in "Free" be the reason?

Check the universal joints in the jackshaft between the gearbox and the transfer case.
Driving a short distance in 4low with hubs unlocked shouldn't do any harm.

Either the linkage is broken or the transfer case has broken. Visually inspect the linkage. If it is fine then there is a good chance its the T-case.

I own a suzuki samurai and it will not turn to the right. will turn slightly but not as sharp as it should. also, the front wheels do not move when the car is in 4 wheel drive and i have it up off the...

If it has been lifted the Pitman arm needs to be adjusted to recenter the steering.

With the engine off, the trans in gear and the transfer case in 4 Hi or Low you should not be able to rotate the front drive shaft. If this is the case it sounds like a hub problem. Make sure the hubs are engaged. If so the hubs could be rusted and need cleaning to work freely.

loosen all the engine and trans mounts and the exhasust head pipe pipes from the exh manifolds, then shift the trans from park to reverse a few times and then to nuetral, shut off the engine and see if that helps.

How hard is it to replace the rear main seal in a '87 Samurai?

Is it a 4x4 if it is you would have to seperate the tranny from transfer case and drive shaft tp change out seal.If not just drop the drive shaft and replace seal.We are talking about the rear seal at the end of the tranny.

The shifter sheet is worn out or not even there (its rubber) from multiple uses. It eventually decades.

Tons of Samurai enthusiast retailers carry them. Lowrangeoffroad, Petroworks, Trail Tough, and more.

They also carry the one for the tranny shifter.

Underneath transfer shifter is what is called a "sheet" under the shift lever ball. The sheet is a plastic spacer that breaks up, remove broken pieces and tnstall new shet, available at a Suzuki dealer
