Question about 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD
1998 Dodge Ram 1500D 5.2 L engine 4WD
Runs fine in all gears, no shudder w/o OD.
There is an O/D button on the right side of steering wheel. If I press that, I can feel it engage but after stepping on the gas the whole front end starts to shutter like something is locking up. I disengage the O/D and the vehicle no longer shudders.
Heard this could possibly be the torque converter lock-up solenoid open/close circuit.?
If that is the case, how do I diagnose the Power Train Control Module?
Received error code P0308 regarding ''misfire on cylinder 8'' This flashes 3 times and then stays on after battery is disconnected and driven again. Misfire only occurs on hard acceleration.
Thanks for any help given =)
The P0308 could be showing up because of the torque converter shudder. Go to your local trans shop, or parts store and get a bottle of Smart Blend. It is the best additive for TCC shudder. Do Not put anything else in your trans. This stuff works, and it is the only additive recomended by GM, and Dodge.. It is not but about $10, if your converter in not to far gone this will help. If it is all you are out is $10. Good Luck.

I had the same problem, truck idled kind of rough, when it shifted into overdrive and the converter locked up around 50, the truck would shake hard! I was getting misfire codes, blinking when accelerating, and then staying on for cylinder #4. After replacing plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and thinking it was the converter, I decided to look at the injectors. This truck has never had bad gas in it, I change the fuel filter regularly, but when I pulled the injectors, the inlets were clogged big time with rust and corruption. I pulled off the washers, cleaned out the major stuff with some picks, and soaked them over night in carb cleaner (19.00 at Walmart) blew them out the next morning. (Hint: If you rig up a couple of wires to attach to the battery and the terminals on the injector you can activate/open the injector and blow through it with shop air backwards to clean any left overs) Reinstalled the seals (put a little grease on them to ease installation). BEFORE you reinstall the injectors, turn the key on and off quickly. you will be amazed at the crud that comes out of the fuel rail. You may have to plug all of the holes on the rail but one, one at a time, to get it all out of there. Then reinstall the injectors. Viola! She runs like a new truck, no shuddering when shifting into overdrive, and much more power! I hope this helps someone else before they spend all kinds of money chasing it like I did! Good Luck!
