You can try to see if the fuel regulator is bad, sometimes there will be gas in the air cleaner\tube,it sounds to me that its getting too much fuel

Car wont stay started unless foot on gas pedal

This could be a lot of things. IT could be the injectors or the fuel pump pressure, it could be the air intake, vacuum leak, etc.

Engine wont start, unless I push the gas pedal and keep my foot on it.?

Could be a dirty throttle body, or a stuck idle air control valve.

2002 ford escape starts but wont stay running unless the foot is kept on the pedal. took it to a shop and had a diagnostic test on it. It's saying there is nothing wrong. Mechanic said it must be

Computers rarely fail. The diagnostic would not show anything wrong unless a trouble code is set UNLESS the diagnostic used live data vieew. Most shops dont do that . So at what RPM does it not die? How many miles are on it? Ford uses something called an idle air speed motor. They are prone to fouling.

2003 santa fe that has no acceleration going uphill, no power when pedal is floored, won't shift unless I let my foot off the pedal.

Try unugging the MAF sensor. I don't remember if these will run with it unplugged but it's worth a try. If performance improves then try cleaning it with MAF sensor cleaner. If there is no improvement with the above than I would suspect a plugged cat. I don't remember if this year has one cat or three. If it has one you can drop the exhaust ahead of the cat and drive it. It performance returns its a plugged cat. If it has 3 cats than you will need to remove the upstream O2 sensors and use a back pressure gauge to check exhaust back pssure. You should see less than 3/4 psi at idle Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using!

98 grand prix 3.8 non-supercharge starts but wont stay running have to keep foot on gas pedal to stay running blows out white some trough the exhaust. no coolant in oil what is causing this

If it is blowing thick white smoke that is coolant. You can lose a head gasket in places where only coolant passages go through so you don't always get oil/coolant mixing when this happens. Take the radiator cap off and see if air bubbles through it. You can also try pulling the spark plugs to see if one or more looks really clean.

Hey chev cavalier 2.8 1989

Loss of power could be a result of a plugged cat, but not the smoke, still leaning toward a head gasket or cracked head. Remove all of the spark plugs. Pressurize the radiator with approximately 15 pounds of pressure and wait for approximately 1/2 hour to 1 hour then crank the engine over and watch to see if coolant comes out of the spark plug holes. This will tell you if your problem is a head gasket or possibly a cracked head. And just on a side note, unless it was a typo, an 89 should only be carburated or have TBI, they didnt have injectors on those models yet, and off the top of my head I dont think most vehicles were using crank sensors either then, but I'd have to look that up to know for sure.
