done already, the front struts are easy, just need to remove wheel for access. the rear strts are different, do one side at a time and not only do you need to jack up the frame, you also need to support the rear end on the side yor working on. If you don't it'll (the rear end) fall to the ground when you remove either the top nut or the lower assembly. By the way the top nut is a ***** to remove or replace on both the rear struts.

To replace the shocks go to public library and see if they have a chilton manual for this car.

hi, the first thing would be the proper tools. apart from the general hand toold, you require a spring compressor for removing the shock absorber. it would be better if u could see some video of the same before u get ur hands dirty on the job....

Replace cv assembly and also attempt to lift up rear

Best to replace both sides and yes it is the whole axle assembly for each side, as for the struts on the back there are no springs on these struts.

Have broken left front strut(s) on 1998 malibu LS 4-door

dealers will not do warranty repairs from another shop.but if it is a recall then the only way the dealer can refuse the work is if they can prove that the job was completed by another dealer.no matter who has done the work the recall needs to be completed by the dealer ships. they may or may not give you a problem about this.
i would just keep that part to yourself and let the dealer deal with the recalls part of it.
as far as the struts yes they need to be replaced if one side or the other if not both bounch up and down.
if you can go and push up and down on the corner of the car and get it bouncing up and down progressivly more and more then they are bad .they they resist a lot and its very hard to get it to bounce then they may not need replacement.if they do need to be replaced its important to do it as soon as possable as the front hold most of the weight when in braking and turning conditions and its very easy to loose control of the car with week struts.use kyb replacments.the firmer the better i allways have liked up front.

Does anyone have information on how to remove and replace the front struts for a 1991 grand marquis? Pics would be cool

I dont have the exact model in my notes but you can figure your fix with my references.. Ford used the Mcphearson strut assembly on a wish bone suspension alot...
I attached pixes of various kinds never undo the bolt on the center top of your strut just promise to read this through
5b264fc.jpg 840b930.jpg the three bolts hold the whole assembly in place some are on strut tower some you have to go to a arms to find..

the next step is clamp it and remove the center nut stay clear from both ends remove the nut slip off spring put spring over new strut make sure the cut coil seats properly on the bottom of the strut then reinstall the the upper insulator and stud mount Ive torqued some around 45 ft lbs...
be careful good luck Im me if you need help!!!
