There is a power steering stop leak fluid that some auto part stores have, if it is a small leak, a big leak you will have to replace what ever is leaking.

Stp makes a p/w steering fluid with stop leak but this usually only works if leak is minor.you can try this for a few bucks and if leak doesnt stop then repairs are most likely needed. chris

Can I use stp automatic transmission fluid for power steering in my 2002 jetta

I suggest only using power steering fluid in the power steering system in VW Jetta's. I tried using trans. fluid before and it made the pump wine constantly especially when cold and I had to purge the system and refill it with power steering fluid to get it to stop.

2001 jetta Power steering fluid leak

A power steering system has a rack, fluid tank with hose to pump, pump, high pressure in hose and a low pressure return hose to tank. I f you say theres no leak at the rack that only leaves those other conponents. I would check the pump its self and the high pressure hose where it leaves the pump. It may also be leaking at the tank, where the hose leaves to the pump because it is only fastend down with clips and they can come loose or the hose can split. hope this helps

I don't know what power steering fluid to put in my jetta 2001 td

It is quite possible that the resevor is out of fluid. If this is so, it is very bad for your power steering pump. If it still makes noise after you refill the steering fluid, then you will have to rebuild or replace the power steering pump.

somewhere there is a air leak on the suction side of the pump.  Try tightening the clamps and connections.

Your friend wouldnt happen to know what he put in? Before it goes to far drain the system and add proper fluid, if it is improper fluid maybe it wont be to late.

Check the fluid level and add as much as is appropriate. Keep in mind that you must use Audi/VW power steering fluid, as it's a proprietary mixture and use of "normal" fluid will ruin the steering rack (that'll run you over a grand to replace). Do this soon - extended periods of running with low PS fluid will burn up the pump.
