You are losing oil pressure! Don't run the engine without the proper repairs!!
Check the oil level, if it's in the safe range, then it's possible that the oil pump is not working(this is a major deal, and could be a sign of other problems...if there's something plugging up the screen on the pickup tube, it could mean that something's coming apart inside the motor. I would drain the oil, and run it through a strainer to check for metal or plastic particles in the oil that could be from pistons, rings, timing gears... but dont' continue to run your engine without the proper oil pressure! the guage flickering means that it's dropping to unsafe pressure! a solid light means you've lost oil pressure.

... If there's no oil on the dipstick, add oil 1 quart.. and then recheck... add more as needed, but don't overfill.

Oil pressure gauge does not reach 40 PSI. Heard the sounds like a loud ticking coming from the engine on the passengers side. Then pressed on the gas peddle and it didn't want to add power. Ticking n

Not sure if there is a question here or not. If the pressure is always below 40 and you are hearing engine noise, chances are the oil pressure really is low. You could replace the sending unit or use a mechanical gauge to verify.

1997 FORD THUNDERBIRD IS MAKING TICKING SOUND WHEN STARTING AND STOPPED AT LIGHTS

Old oil can do this...replace the oil, with a lower grade 10w30 and have your oil pump checked if the problem continues.

Check engine light with oil light came on

The oil light means the engine oil pressure is below 10psi.
Could be a faulty switch, or it could actually be low oil pressure.
I would not drive at at highway speeds until you get it checked out.
Most auto parts stores will scan the computer for trouble codes for free in hopes of selling you some parts. The code or codes will point you in the direction of the problem with the check engine light.

I have a 1997 Ford Escort 2.0L when my rpm gauge goes below 1500 the oil light comes on. When I step on the gas and it goes above 1500 it shuts off what can this be. I check for oil loss and there is none....

DONT overfill the oil..If its overfull,,DRAIN immediately..You WILL do damage if its 3 quarts over..Sounds like a possible oil pressure sensor..If it makes a ticking sound at idle or tries to overheat,,you may have a oil pressure problem..The suction screen on your pump could also be stopped up...I f you havent been changing the oil at the right intervals ,,try to run some engine flush and drain the oil and see if that helps..Follow the directions on the flush,,and do not drive it while flushing it,,this could also do damage..If the flush doesnt work,,and you cant check your oil pressure,,than i would try replacing the sensor..Worse case senerio your oil pump is bad...

Gauges work fine when engine's started, then oil gauge falls below zero and warning light comes on saying "Check gauges," so I check the oil and transmission fluid levels and these are fine but...

start by checking the ground strap to the engine, and engine to body. The oil pressure sender unit may be bad. You may have to hook up an oil pressure gauge to the oil pressure sender port to verify proper oil pressure. Senders are cheap- I would just replace it and go from there.

The oil pressure gauge keeps dropping down to 0 while i am driving

If you don't hear any ticking or knocking while the pressure gauge drops, the problem is probably a failing "oil pressure sensor". If you do hear a ticking or knocking, the problem is probably a failing "oil pump".

Oil light comes on and dings all day

If engine is not ticking or knocking while running, likely the pressure sender is faulty. If changing it makes no difference, have actual pressure checked with a mechanical gauge.
