Question about 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 2WD
I just bought a used truck, and the check engine light has been on since my purchase. The engine appears to run without problems. When getting gas, the filling nozzle shuts off prematurely (on a partially full tank). The Chevy dealership says it's probably a bad gas vent charcoal canister. I want to repair/replace it myself, but haven't located this canister (and don't have a repair manual yet). I've read of leaking hoses and bad solenoids on this canister, but have also read of a valve somewhere close to this canister that is notorious for going bad.
I plan to buy a repair manual, but would appreciate your suggestions as to probable / possible causes of the problem.
Well come to the GM World. The filler tube to the gas tank is small and i find it to be the same on my Jimmy and my wife's Montana.
When filling, try starting off slow. Then gradually pull on the trigger more, as you fill the tank with gas. The fluid going in back's up with the air coming out. When you start off slow then pull on the trigger more you give the gas going in and air coming out time to create a path through that they can don't really interfere much with one another.
After a while you'll find a certain way (eather tilted to the left or right) to place the Gas pump nozzle in the filler tube to keep it from cutting off on you.
Good luck and hope this helps. If there is anything wrong with the EVAP. Charcoal canister, vacuum tubes or valve, your Service Engine light would go on. The ECM monitors all of that and would save a DTC in the ECM's memory to be retrieved by a technition's scanner.
