Question about 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 2WD

Difficulty filling gas tank '06 Silverado 2500 HD 6.0 4x4 w/125K

I just bought a used truck, and the check engine light has been on since my purchase. The engine appears to run without problems. When getting gas, the filling nozzle shuts off prematurely (on a partially full tank). The Chevy dealership says it's probably a bad gas vent charcoal canister. I want to repair/replace it myself, but haven't located this canister (and don't have a repair manual yet). I've read of leaking hoses and bad solenoids on this canister, but have also read of a valve somewhere close to this canister that is notorious for going bad.

I plan to buy a repair manual, but would appreciate your suggestions as to probable / possible causes of the problem.

So the only way to tell WHY the 'check engine' light is on is to pay a repair technician to run computer diagnostics? (or replace things one by one until the light goes off?...and will the light go off automatically when the faulty part is replaced, or does the computer have to be reset???)

Well come to the GM World. The filler tube to the gas tank is small and i find it to be the same on my Jimmy and my wife's Montana.
When filling, try starting off slow. Then gradually pull on the trigger more, as you fill the tank with gas. The fluid going in back's up with the air coming out. When you start off slow then pull on the trigger more you give the gas going in and air coming out time to create a path through that they can don't really interfere much with one another.
After a while you'll find a certain way (eather tilted to the left or right) to place the Gas pump nozzle in the filler tube to keep it from cutting off on you.
Good luck and hope this helps. If there is anything wrong with the EVAP. Charcoal canister, vacuum tubes or valve, your Service Engine light would go on. The ECM monitors all of that and would save a DTC in the ECM's memory to be retrieved by a technition's scanner.

The Computer cycle it's self every time you start the truck, when the faulty part has been replaced 95% of the time the check engine light or service light goes off.

Most larger Auto part store like Auto Zone or Parts Source will scan your truck for free and will have the step by step instruction to replace the faulty part.

There are just to many things that could be causing your check engine light to be on, It ranges from just a faulty Gas Cap to a Bad O2 Sensor. Both will really have no symptoms of drive ability and you have always had the truck like that sine you bought it so you really don't know if your getting bad or good gas mileage.

Good luck and hope this helps. When you do get the truck scanned, have them reset it and drive around for a day first to see if the check engine light comes back before buying the part. It may have been an oil problem that the computer could not reset it self without a technician's scanner.

The other thing that would also set the DTC light is time for a Transmission service, when the transmission filter starts to get too dirty the fluid pressure drops it will be with the DTC too. Like i said there are just to many things that can set the DTC to go off.

I have a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD. A mechanic worked on it recently to fix electrical problems with the power window. Before the mechanic worked on the truck the Air Conditioner worked great. Now...

What engine does your 2500 HD have? Is it a 6.6 diesel, a 6.0 gas, or an 8.1 gas engine? If it's a gas engine, the A/C compressor belt may have snapped (common). The gas engines used a separate, smaller belt to drive the compressor, while the larger serpentine belt runs the rest of the accessories. Diesel engines only have one belt that runs all accessories, including the A/C compressor.

Service exhaust soon on 2011 2500 hd

There is a tank that is along the frame rail and it hold DEF (diesel Exhaust Fluid) when the tank is almost empty, you get that message to fill it. 5.3 gallons is what it holds and it gets 1300 miles to the gallon.

Where is the "full" mark on the engine coolant tank on my truck? My "low coolant level" light is on and I have added DexCool, and it is still on. I have a 2002 Silverado 2500 HD with the 6.0 gas engine.

The full mark when the engine is hot is at the "hot" marking on the tank. The full cold mark is the "cold" marking on your tank. When the engine is cold, try removing the radiator cap and checking the level. Top off the radiator if necessary. You can disconnect the positive battery terminal for 30 seconds and then reconnect it to reset the ecm but if you have the stock radio, it will lock you out unless you have the radio code. You can try to unplug the sensor on the tank and plug it back in. The sensor is probably grounding out because it is faulty and will need to be replaced but try unplugging it before you put a new one in.

2009 Silverado 2500 HD hard to start after filling with last fuel fill. Idles very rough, but runs fine at top speeds. Very rough at idle in gear.

you should first test the computer system for trouble may have overfilled the gas tank and flooded the carbon canister that holds the gas fumes from the tank, i would look for trouble codes first though,as filling the tank and the problem ocurring after that may only be coinsidental, this would be hard for you to diagnos anyway.

Chugs, acts like it's not getting gas once warmed up. Idle's fine

This problem can be several things. When your engine is cold, your computer is in a "closed loop" and just pretty much keeps the engine running until warmed up. After reaching operation temperature, the computer starts reading all the sensors. If one sensor is not connected or is defective, you will experience performance problems. Most of the time this will turn on the check engine light, but not always. Second is the fuel pump. This too will cause erratic engine problems.

try leaving gas cap loose on your next fill up and see if that helps. gas tanks need air and if gas cap vent is not letting air in the truck will acted like it is running out of gas
