Wow you should know the accords and tls had a recall on the j30 j32 ( 3.0 and 3.2 tecs) after 99 families after their tranny return lines was designed to small and the overheating causes the tranny to be slow and burn up... they are all notorious to be slipping and sluggish in 1st and 2nd gear... also the second gear drum is known to crack thought call 1 800 acura ask if there is recall on your tranny... next thought about your wacky gauges your vss ( vehicle speed sensor ) is mounted on the side bby the mount on the side of the tranny it is pulse width modulated which is an ac current to you TCM transmission contrl modual and is multiplexed along with your PCM computer or Ecu your car computers recieve signals from your 2 crankshaft sensors and your map sensor and your Tps sensor those two are on your throttle body...these give the signal to your car to know what gears to shift it recieves load throttle position and speed signals now on a honda like that to have those symptons i believe to go to the Vss is first to blame...i cant access the info from here but i can get you full diagnosis that you can do with a multimeter monday afternoon western time will save you thousand bucks on the things you will learn about your car and the test you will know and how easy some of the test are to do...
last thought ....change your thermostat its easy to change ...if your car over heats the sensor on your water neck tell your computer so the idle and rpm will be effected anyways its trying to not to blow so the perameters of mobility will change...ok

If it is not shifting out of first gear, the governor in your transmission has likely failed. Not a difficult repair, but not a cheap one!

When shifting gears in my 1997 honda civic I hear reveing noice, what could be causing it?

If it's an automatic it means the clutches inside the transmition are slipping. Sometimes you can change the trans. oil and filter and save the trany, but more times than not, by the time you hear it slipping (or reving) it's too late to save the transmition.

My 99 chrysler concord speedometer quit working and it wont shift out of 2nd gear. What is wrong?

Chances are the check engine light came on also. You should have the vehicle scanned for codes, it could be that the output speed sensor has failed. This could put the transmission into limp mode (second gear) and cause the speedometer not to work. I would guess this to be an inexpensive repair, .6 hours labor plus the cost of the sensor, $16.99 at O'reillys ...I hope this helps

My is shifting from 2 to drive back to 2 why is it doning that

Check your tranny fluid levels- if they are low your transmition will slip between gears, however if you notice any kind of free reving while its shifting (like being reved up when in park or neutral) then the hydrostatic clutches are slipping and the transmition needs repair.

Another thing you should investigate is your transmition kick down bar (it shifts the trany into a lower gear when accelerating hard to help pick up speed.

Transmition not shifting automaticaly on 2001 pt -cruiser

Check the fluid level and add the proper amount if needed. If the level is fine, take it to a shop. It sounds like the transmission is slipping, and the heat generated will quickly kill it.

Would the engine over heating on my 2002 dodge neon cause my transmition to slip?

No, this is not related. You just happen to lucky enough to have two problems at the same time. If the engine got to a point where is was glowing hot, it could transfer the heat to the cooling lines causing air bubbles in the fluid and henceforth a slipping tranny. However, your engine would seize solid forever given those circumstances.

Transmission shifts hard

Your car has the 125c/3T40 model trans,3 speed automatic with lockup. When you say you unplugged the "speedometer",if you are referring to a square electrical connector on the trans, facing the radiator, that connector is not the speedometer, but the lockup circuit inside the transmission. It is likely the lockup solenoid inside the side pan has gone bad and is malfunctioning. It is a common problem on those transmissions. You will lose some gas mileage by unhooking the connector, and eventually, years down the road, will hurt the trans from the fluid running too hot.Lockup clutch application in a General Motors lockup torque convertor helps to cool the fluid.
