Just trying to locate my transmission cooler lines so I can drain a bit of fluid; previous owner over-filled it

There may not be any spot to drain transmission fluid at the radiator. (All radiators have the transmission cooler built into the lower half of it.) You may have to let fluid out anywhere along the line that you can find to disassemble. Maybe look at the transmission itself to see if there is a drain plug on the transmission pan (like an oil pan)

What are the brass fittings at the bottom of a radiator in a 1997 dodge neon sohc for

If they are plugs they may be drain holes or a place where you can fit a drain tap. If they can be plugged and you have no items to attach to them it will not be a problem

Where is the radiator drain plug? How do you drain it?

The drain plug for the radiator on the first generation dodge stratus 4-cylinder (1995-2000) is located directly below the driver's side headlight. If you look through the vent a little below the headlight, you should see a black plastic wingnut. if you've located that, you've found the drain plug. You will probably need a pair of pliers (I used a pair of needle-nose), and you will definitely have to come from behind. With a little bit of work and frustration, you'll get it loose enough to drain the radiator fluid.

Hope this answer helps!

Note: The drain plug is probably in the same location for the 2.5L V-6 powered stratus, but I've never seen one so I can't be sure. If someone else knows this information, they can feel free to post it here.

You can access the drain **** from top or bottom, it is a blind area so you will have to feel for it. once you drain the radiator REMOVE THE DRAIN **** BY OPENING IT FULLY AND PULLING IT OUT. Inspect the O-ring on it! if it is damaged replace it; if not you will have a leak. The valve is a 3/4 turn and any more and it will break off. WHEN it breaks off , PULL the Radiator! it's a pain but makes repair much easier, you will have to fabricate the plug, there are none left on this planet. put on a new O-ring and use a metal screw in the center hole coat with rtv/sealant and instal.

thanks

Need to put antifreeze in the radiator of my dodge neon. Do I have to drain it first or is there a way to get antifreeze in it without draining it. And if I do have to drain it where is the plug?

The drain plug is at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side. I see no reason to drain it all out unless you just want to change it. If you do our Neons take the orange radiator fluid Havoline "Dex-Cool" invented by Havoline. It has a very bad taste added to it to protect children and pets. I changed it at 74000 in my wife's 2003 Neon SXT using a 50/50 mix of Dex-Cool and distilled water to avoid any scaling residue.

Our Neons cannot use any other type as it will ruin the internals of your engine the coolant comes into contact with.
The anti freeze is to be changed at 100,000 miles. If your coolant reservoir tank (located in the engine compartment on the drivers side just under the windshield large white plastic bottle) is always filling up over time and spilling over you may need a new radiator cap.

The radiator cap lets some of the coolant out in to the reservoir tank as you drive and the coolant expands due to heat. When your radiator cools off a vacuum is created inside of your radiator at that time your radiator cap is to open it's valve and **** the coolant from the reservoir tank back into the radiator via the small hose that leads from just under your radiator cap to the reservoir tank.

Make sure the hose leading from just under your radiator cap to the reservoir tank has a tight seal at both ends as well as no leaks.

If your cap is not operating properly it will just keep letting coolant out and not letting the radiator **** it back in resulting low coolant level in the radiator.
