Question about 1988 Honda Accord 4 Door

2 Answers

I have a 1988 Honda Accord and it refuses to go into gear. It shifts fine until driven for about 2 miles, then - that's it. It will not shift into gear anymore. I've heard that I might simply need fluid in it, but as I am mechanically retarded I do not know where to fill it with fluid - I am also completely broke and am looking for the easiest possible out - any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

On older hondas the transmission fluid fill is in the front right of the hood, pretty low in the engine. You will need a long funnel to fill. It has a yellow cap on it. Also, make sure to use compatible tranny fluid. Hope this helps

Definitely not good. The transmission is slipping internally due to worn gears and clutch packs. It will have to come out for rebuilding, IMO. Have a transmission shop check it out.
Good luck.

It's not the tranny. Does your speedometer and Tachometer work correctly, if not this could be your Vehicle Speed Sensor. I've also had this next problem before. You need to find your transmission computer from under your passenger side floor carpet and see if it looks burnt like this inside. If so, when you call the junkyards, make sure they have your exact year and trim of Accord, ie: LX, EX, SE, etc. Take the old one with you. It's important to know if the car has the sport shift button or not also.

Car shifts hard (up & down), especially shifting to reverse.

that delayed reaction may be the transmission slipping. with those many miles it could be the transmission going bad

1998 Honda Accord transmission problem

This transmission have shift solenoids that are mounted on the outside in my personal experience I have rectified shift problem with these transmissions by simply change a solenoid or two. My recommendation is to put this vehicle on a code scanner and find out what is at fault first. If its a solenoid just replace, they are a dealer only part and that should take care of your problem.
