SOURCE: need to reset the fuel pump on a 1997 dodge ram van

The only way to reset the system is to disconnect battery cables for 10 minutes and before connecting the cables touch together to completely make sure there is no power left in the system

SOURCE: need timing marks for fuel pump on 406 hdi

The fuel pump is a constant pressure pump, therefore needs no timing. As the engine is not mechanically timed, the pump only needs to be spinning, doesnt actually need to be timed.

SOURCE: i need to know where

See picture below where the fuel pump cut off switch is located. The fuel pump relay is located in the power distribution box located in the engine compartment (see other picture). The relay is located in the R7 position in that box (see layout diagrams below). There is also a fuse for the fuel pump which is located in the same fuse panel. That fuse is in the nuber 12 position and should be a 15 amp fuse. All of this should be in your owners manual if you have one. If you don't and would like a copy, you can email me at csautomotivecars@att.net with your make, model and year and I will be happy to email you a copy. I hope this helps and good luck.

SYSTEM WONT BLEED

diesel engines high pressure pumps not suppose run dry.diesel fuel keep high pressure pump cool and lubricated.problem could be fuel pressure regulator in the fuel filter water separator housing.replace fuel filter see if it helps problem could be fuel pressure regulator in fuel filter housing, the fuel pressure regulator has a air bleed orifice that allows vent to the fuel tank.make sure fuel pump fuse okay pump getting power. i would let garage or dealership check it out if all fails because your diesel engine fuel timing is pcm controlled if let fuel system go dry you probably have to have fuel injection timing reset or could have damage high pressure pump letting it run dry i hope thats not the case because high pressure pump not cheap part i hope it not that.

Transit pump code p0216 how can i fix this

P0216 DTC - Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction and this means the diesel fuel injection pump has a timing failure. This could be that the injection pump timing needs adjusted OR the failure is internal to the injection pump and therefore non-adjustable.

NOTE: If your vehicle is a Dodge Ram with Cummins engine then be aware that fuel delivery problems frequently cause this code. Prolonged fuel delivery problems can cause injection pump failure!

Symptoms of a P0216 DTC may include:
Low power
Crank, but no start
Hard start
Displays an intermittent stumble or miss
Engine may start and then stall
Engine may appear to drive fine but surge at idle

The most frequent cause of this code is a bad injection pump due to poor fuel delivery. Fuel delivery problems could be:
A plugged diesel fuel filter
An in-tank blockage
Air in the fuel due to a cracked in-tank fuel ine above the fuel level
Bad transfer (lift) pump
Injection pump out of time

Possible Solutions: First, simply check if your injection pump timing is adjustable. If so, check the timing and adjust if necessary.

If you think that you may have a fuel delivery problem, then check the lift pump operation. On Dodge Ram with the Cummins engine, the lift pump should produce about 45 oz of diesel in 25 seconds of operation. This can be performed by disconnecting the fuel hose from the injection pump and pumping the fuel into an approved container. Bump the engine over but do not start it. Then the lift pump will operate for 25 seconds. If the fuel is aerated, then check/repair fuel line and recheck.

With the fuel hose connected the fuel pressure should be 10psi. If the fuel delivery tests fail, replace the diesel fuel filter and recheck.

If it still fails then verify there are no restrictions in the fuel tank

Then replace the lift (transfer) pump. IT SHOULD BE NOTED that if this code surfaced after a routine fuel filter replacement or if you have any of the above symptoms after routine fuel filter replacement, then suspect the fuel transfer pump. This occurs because even a weak transfer pump can still provide enough fuel for the engine to run. But when the fuel system\'s prime is lost due to fuel filter replacement, it may not restart again without fixing the fuel delivery problem.

If you found your injection pump to be bad, the lift pump should be checked for operation to protect the new injection pump. This is because weak or low output from lift pump are common cause of injection pump failure. There are some aftermarket kits that can be purchased to warn the operator when the fuel pressure/volume drops to level that could damage the injection pump.

Hope this helps (remember to rating this free answer and leave a testimonial comments).

Hello, i have a 95 dodge neon that cuts off after starting it. I let it sit for a few hours, come back and it will not start at all. One of my family members bounced the rear end up ad down, and it...

I am metalpoet....level II chrysler tech.....It sounds like a fuel pump issue by the way you describe it but I know from working on them you will need a timing belt....This will cause it to run terrible like you have described after you get it started.....I really need more info....Has it been tuned up or anything like that lately......How many miles are on it ? Without knowing anything I would disconnect battery/ remove the in line fuel filter / then reconnect battery turn switch on and see if the fuel pump is pumping out fuel...(THE PRESSURE ISNT VERY HIGH COMING OUT OF THE TANK...BUT BE CAREFUL.....IT IS 2 MAN OPERATION ).......IF NO FUEL YOU NEED AN IN TANK PUMP KIT...IF YOU HAVE POWER GOING TO IT........IF fuel comes out let it run until clean then replace in line filter......Then check timing belt....The timing belt is not for beginners to
replace.....Please reply with more info.....I can give detailed instructions on replacing timing belt if needed.............Need to know history of vehicle........................Metalpoet

Was driving my car and it felt like it was running out of gas with a full tank of gas. then stalled. cranks faster then normal. changed the plugs and noticed no fuel pump initiallize on key turning. is...

If your engine cranks "faster thAn normal," that is an indication that it has lost compression. That probably means that suddenly, the valve timing is wrong, since some valves are open when they should be closed, on compression strokes. Most likely, you have a defective timing belt, or timing chain. Since chains very seldom fail that way, (but it actually can happen), my bet is, the problem is a failed timing belt. Even if you can see action in the valves by looking through the cap where you add oil, that does NOT mean that that the timing belt is not bad, since many times, they fail by losing some ribs on the belt instead of breaking completely apart (which would stop all valve action)!

Engine turns over but will not start i think its the fuel pump

check the timing belt... and check the fuse for the fuel pump... it's usually under the hood... and most likely... it's a 15 amp fuse, my cousin has a 2004 montana... and well... his wouldn't start either... come to find out... all 10 wires going to the fuel pump were either eaten by his dogs... or field rats, any way... to make a long story short... i stripped... spliced... and taped them as best as i could, i told him to turn it over... no go... come to find out there's a fuse for the fuel pump... luckly... the horn had the same 15 amp fuse... i took it out... popped it in where the fuel pump fuse was... and it's ran ever since... so check the all fuse boxes for a fuel pump fuse. good luck man
