I'm having a great deal of trouble locating the fuel filter and then how to go about changing it. The lines disappear back from the carburetor and forward of the tank. Also haven't been able to find the fuel pump. Is it in the tank?
It maybe on the top of the gas tank itself try this website to see if they have your car listed its www.autozone.com if they do you be able to get diagram and pictures showing you where it is located and i hope i have been some help to you Michigan Man

There is only 1 filter, its under the passenger side of the car, right before you get to the back tire... its a silver round thing, should be real easy to find cause nothing else under there has hoses going to it.
These fuel filters are hosed and connected with original crimped and tabbed connectors. You will need a special tool to remove, found in most auto parts stores.
If you like to completely tune-up your acclaim. You can remove these factory crimped hoses and buy some replacement hose and clamps to make it easier next time. The tool used to remove the original hose clamps are very difficult and tricky to work.
Sorry the fuel pump is in the gas tank:
Drain the fuel tank if possible.
Support fuel tank with something such as a trans jack or a regular jack with wood on it so it wont hurt the tank.
Lower tank just enough so you can remove all connections such as wire and hoses.
Remove tank from under the vehicle.
It is held in with a lock nut, take a screw driver and a hammer and gently tap on it till it starts to move.
Remove fuel pump from tank.
Install new pump and put tank back, make all connections and your done.
Before you do all that check the Fuel Pump relay, it's between the battery and the drivers side fender in one of those little black boxes.
Good luck and hope this helps
