Do you have a couple of days, and a backup car. Because this is NOT a simple job. And I have replaced struts, CV joints, rack-and-pinion system, spindles, and many other components on my '90 Continental. You should get you a manual from Autozone or O'Reilly's to start, it has a good description of them process. You have to loosen both of the left-hand side engine mounts (thats if you are standing in front of car). Lift the engine with a floor jack, from underneath the oil pan, place a wooden block on jack saddle. Lift engine like 12-15 degrees, until it is tilled towards you, so that you can begin to loosen components. I have been told that there are two types of water pump configurations for this car, a Full face water pump,
and a half-face pump, which means that only the from of the unit comes off. But both types require you to remove a lot of bolts of the assembly, the water pump pulley, and probably some idler pulleys. This is a Full weekend project, if you have a complete set of tools, 1/2 inch breaker bar, and sockets, it can be done. But this is not any easy repair, and it is a "BACK BREAKER", as in spine, requires you to bend over the fender quite-a-bit. Hope you have a good back, I call ed around, most repair shops will charge you well over $550, Tyler,TX. I called 8 different mechanics, and finally found one that only charge $299, in Tyler, TX, but he understood that I was not the average owner/driver. It was well worth it, since I have some back issues. Hope this helps. -- Alfredo

How do I replace water pump on 97 Lincoln Continental

Best Answer:you can easily do it yourself within 2 hours if your new to working on cars. My mark 8 has the same engine and it took me less than an hour.Heres how.

1: put a pan under the engine to catch the coolant.
2: take off the belt - use a 3/8 in drive wrench in the tensioner(theres a square spot for it to slide in)
3:line up the holes in the pulley with the waterpump and undo the bolts(i think they were 13mm)
4:take out the waterpump and the coolant will flow out the hole. (clean the hole out with a scrub sponge)
5: take pulley off (its a little bit tough so try and get a new waterpump with it already on)
6: put new waterpump in and reverse the rest of the steps
7:fill with coolant- burp the system afterwards(theres a crossover pipe running front to back in between the heads. Just unscrew until you see coolant coming out)

Your done! less than an hour and you saved a couple hundred as stealerships and garages will over charge you as its a lincoln.

Will a broken timing belt damage the valves in 1990 toyota camry v6 dx

No damage will occur. This is a non-interference engine so all you will have to do is make sure the timing marks on the cams and crank are set properly.

I wanna know how to change waterpump

Remove drive belt. Remove all coolant, remove hoses to water pump, Remove all screws from water pump, remove gasket from hard surface, use permatex gasket sealer on both sides of waterpump gasket and apply to engine side, then waterpump, hold water pump in place until all water pump nuts screws are installed, use torque wrench, no more the 10 ft lbs. The rest is the reverse of uninstallation.

How do i change the waterpump in a 1990 honda accord

probably under timing cover behind timing belt and components, replace timinng belt and all tensioners and pulleys associated. very advanced and time consuming work. You didnt specify V6 or 4 cylinder.

How do i install a power steering pump on my 1990 lincoln towncar also how do you stop a leak

if you are going to replace the pump, also replace the two hoses to and from the pump. first remove the belt. then you will need a wheel puller to remove the pulley off the front of the pump. then the pump is held on by 2 or 3 bolts.
