Electrical problem '05 CTS with 3.6L engine. Intermittently fails to start. Radio, seats, lights, wipers, etc. all work. Battery & starter ruled out as problems. Dealer said It was a carboned up throttle valve but even after repair the problem remains. Any ideas?

Does your key have a transponder?
Have you tried with another (spare) key with the same results??

It may be loose/damaged - or a factory installed security system with a bad ignition relay?

Look into the alarm/security - especially since everything else works (but the starter).

Dirty fluid may contribute to a sticking solenoid.
Just curious, has the transmission fluid been changed? If not, you may benefit in changing it and the "filters" now.

It should have been changed @ 50,000 miles. What does your DIC indicate in remaining transmission fluid life?
Be aware that some unscrupulous people have been known to just reset the fluid life indicator without actually changing the fluid.

Remember NEVER LET ANYONE TALK YOU INTO A TRANSMISSION FLUSH!!

89,000 is not a lot of miles for these transmissions.
Unless it has been abused, your transmission should be good for many more miles.

Good Luck,

Daniel, If battery is known to be good, could be bad connections at battery, starter/solenoid, or ground on engine/frame, battery cables also could be bad with build up of corrosion internally. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

My 2004 330ci won't start, does not turn over. The battery is fine, all electrical in the car work fine, plus trying to jump car does not work & a green light is showing on the battery in the truck....

If the battery is fine, why jump it? Faulty thinking to state or think: all electrical in the car work fine. If it did the starter motor would be turning the engine over. The starter motor work on electrical...not all is fine.

check: 1) 60a starter fuse/relay. 2) voltage to starter when turning key to activate starter motor, this will rule out ignition switch or relay. 3) apply direct voltage to starter motor to detect bad starter motor.

No power but car cranks -2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue 250,000KM - Not sure if related but the car just sat for 10 days when I was on Vacation. It started firt time this morning no problem, I put on the heated...

The check engine light is interesting considering everything else is out. I would go to the fuse panels and trace power to the ignition switch. Other than the check engine light, this seems to be most likely.

Power winidows, wipers, dome lights not working on 1998 explorer

This could be a combination of electrical issues, although i feel that the timing is coincidence in this case. When the combination is elec. windows, wipers, and dome lights this is indicative of the GEM module located behind your radio. The GEM (generic electronic module) is an electronic body control module that regulates electrical flow through a number of accessories.

These factory module boards are notorious for acting quirky by failing to ground intermittently until failing completely. I would be cautious in replacing ignition switches, locks, etc. as the issue can be also compounded by corrosion of the main battery ground wire in the engine compartment and which can cause frying of your under dash wiring into the main wiring harness which can get expensive (i speak from experience having had the exact same syptoms). My issues were that these symptoms occurred only in full ON. When in key BACK ACC mode, they disappeared.

New price for one of these modules is around $280-$300 and easily replaced.

Good Luck
