Question about 2003 Toyota Corolla
When the weather gets cold after start the engine revs at 2000-2200 rpm. Some times 'hunts' up and down. No engine light, no code. After warm up the car's idle settles to normal speed. The Toyota technician was not sure why. Otherwise the car runs fine. The noisy cold start is annoying. Any suggestions?
Your toyota technician should know what a "cold starting solenoid" is. It is the little thing that works your throttle until the motor warms up and something else takes over. I'd suggest going to another technician.

Don't know if you have a diesel but some newer diesels have a setting in the computer that revs the motor until it gets to normal operating temperature. I know that chevy you can turn off or on

Have you pulled out the spark plugs to see if there are any tell tale signs on them. They are a good indicator of many problems that occur and can save a lot of time isolating the problem. They should all be the same colour. Is the air box and lid properly secured with no leaks or splits in the intake tube.Have you put injector cleaner in the fuel tank to clear up any possible dirty injectors.Therse a few things your problem could be including engine vacuum leak which you can find by lightly spraying carburettor cleaner around suspect places such as inlet manifold and around injector seals.

bad to worn out oil pump or excessive oil passage clearances that allowing more oil to pass thru them at a lower pressure due to the bigger opening. It can be a sign of an emminant engine failure due to oil starvation.
