Good guess. It's pretty old, the gen may need rebuilding. Check the battery terminals, and the battery ground to the car, it could be corroded after all these years.

Could a fuel filter in vw 1600 beetle cause backfire

very unlikely
back firing is from partially open inlet valves , incorrect firing order , shorting across the points , faulty condenser , loose coil wires or faulty pigtail wire from the points plate to the ground ( distributor body)
seeing as to you have put in new points , I suspect that the condenser lead is shorting across to the points plate where it attaches to the moving point spring
also if the firing order is wrong after replacing the distributor cap that will also cause the problem

I have a 1970 chevy c-20 truck the temp gauge stays on hot even when the truck has been parked over night. Can anyone tell me what is going on with my truck?

Sounds like it is stuck in place or not getting power. Normal operation is for the gauge stays in place when the key is switched off, then to move when the key is turned on. The sending unit provides ground.

1970 Ford F100 Gas Gauge Not Working

It may be the sending unit in the tank that needs replacing. Here's how you can check: Turn the key on and disconnect the sender unit at the gas tank. Ground the sender unit's wire with a jumper wire from the truck's harness to ground. Watch the gauge. If the gauge on the dash is good, grounding the sender wire will cause the gauge needle to react and should move to full. This would indicate a new sending unit is required. If the gauge doesn't move when the sender unit is grounded, the gauge is bad and needs replacing. Pull the instrument cluster out to replace the gas gauge. Likely any old ford gas gauge might work-back then, there were not so many production changes.

I need the torque sequence for a 1970 vw 1600cc cylinder head. I have a 1970 Volkwagon Beetle,1600cc.

Imagine that the head bolts are numbered from left to right.  Go 2-3-1-4 and set the wrench to 23 ft/pounds.

Head Lights

The fuse is not the problem... it is likely a poor spade electrical connector by the back of the head lights, and a poor chassey ground near the head lights, also by the starter and the transmission. Be sure ALL the chassey grounds are wire brushed and cleaned... remove the bolts holding on the ground straps, wire brush then replace.
