It signifies that the engine control unit (ECU) has crippled the engine but gave you enough power to drive to the garage for repairs

My 2006 Buick lacrosse reduce power light came on today--what does that mean

Reduced Engine Power
Refer to Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System Description in Engine Controls - 3.6L or Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System Description in Engine Controls - 3.8L
TAC System Default Actions/Reduce Power Modes
There are 2 reduce power modes that the engine control module (ECM) can default to if an error is detected in the throttle actuator control (TAC) system. If an accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor 1 or APP sensor 2 circuit fault, throttle position (TP) sensor 2 circuit fault, or if a TP sensor 1 circuit fault is detected with some APP angle, the ECM goes into one of the 2 reduce power modes. In this mode, the engine torque is limited so that the vehicle cannot reach speeds of more than 100 km/h (60 mph). The ECM remains in this reduce power mode during the entire ignition cycle even if the fault is corrected.
If there is a condition with the throttle actuator control circuits, throttle actuator command vs actual position fault, return spring check fault, or a TP sensor 1 circuit fault, the ECM goes into the other reduce engine power mode. In this mode, the engine speed is limited to 2,500 RPM and the 3-6 fuel injectors are randomly turned OFF. At this time the Reduced Power indicator is commanded ON. The ECM remains in the reduce power mode during the entire ignition cycle even if the fault is corrected. Observe, if a TP sensor 1 or throttle actuator control circuit fault is present at the time the vehicle is at idle, with no accelerator pedal angle, the engine may stall.

What does engine power reduced mean

This is a symptom of the on board computer detecting an issue with the engine / operability. It has placed the engine in limp or reduced power mode to minimize potential damage. You may see a check engine or service engine soon indication on the dash with this problem. Some auto parts stores can scan the car's computer to get the code(s) causing the the reduced power mode. Many times, this issue needs to be addressed by a mechanic however.

I have bmw 318 08 reg problem is indicating engine fault. Loss of power can u solve this problem.

Hi Anon
To find out what the problem is, you will have to get the code read as this will indicate what the fault is, when the engine management light comes on it could be 1000's of different things, so each error has its own code, you will have to take it to a garage or dealership to enable them to connect a diagnostics reader to your vehicle, reduced power is telling you , you can only drive it slowly as there is a fault and it is not 100% sure what the fault is ( car computers are not intelligent they just know something is wrong ) so it is saying reduce your speed until the fault is fixed. hope that halps

Have the engine codes pulled , it will indicate why the computer put the vehicle in "reduced power" mode.

Reduced engine power came on i'n my 00 chevy

Ok I would start by checking your shifter to make sure it adjusted right and you can do this by looking at your shift indicator if that is ok then might have a bad manual shift valve thats in the transmission, if that valve goes bad it would tell the pcm that your transmission is being shifted into another gear while your driving causing the Power control module (PCM) to out you vehicle into reduced engine mode

It say engine power reduced how do I Dix it

The engine management system has detected something wrong. It is serious enough to reduce power and it has indicated so. You need to pull the codes and proceed on that information. Do this forthwith, as the condition restricts your performance.

WHat does it mean when your traction control indicator comes on and says it has reduced your engine power?

Hello Jeremy.
When your traction light comes on it is indicating wheel spin on acceleration. To prevent wheel spin an onboard computer reduces engine power to limit the wheel spin. Some, if not most, cars equipped with this feature will also apply the brakes if wheel spin continues after reducing engine power.
Hope this answers your question.
Thank you for using Fixya!
