Hi goodafternoon,
I think the problem is your thermostat is bad, because I had similar issue that the rpm would be normal and then rpm goes up by itself for a while without any warning. I got an accident because of this in the winter. Hope this helps.

Toyota corolla hatch 2002 idle at 2000 rpm when

All the above is normal , except 2000rpm is a little high at idle . can be adjusted down to 1500rpm. the computer adjusts the engine speed . in drive the transmission loads up the engine idle drops to 1000rpm . in park engine unloaded rpm increase all normal.

When i put my suzuki vitara in drive or park it slams.

the idle speed is too high , post idle speed, id bet it is.....
fix that first
all A./T do that ,it's an engine failure, not A/T
is he CEL glowing runinng> , if yes, that means there are errors.
DTC errors, scan it.

keep in mind , im not driving, so if the U-joints are falling off car.
then????? fixing cars is a hands on, thing.
the mech, can feel what happens
and RPM is #1 before i just shift.
800 HOT
1000 to 1500 cold (are you in the klondike?) no location on earth stated nor out door temperatures at start.

your cars clutch has stall speed, do not shift car if rpm is above that.
or it will be nasty, clutch, and car wants to fly, or leap.

Car moves ofline when driving

the automatic transmission creeps? is that it?
that means the (brakes are dead) or the engine RPM is too fast.
if engine is cold (was it) the RPM can be and will be very high and will creep. so is it cold, the engine , and how cold, was it at time of creep
and what was the engine RPM.

or does e ofline mean off line or really means stalls.
as in, my engine when off line, like printer. or ?
wild guess there.

this is simple, all A./T have a clutch that has a stall speed
if you exceed that, RPM it does creep, that is how the a/T fluid clutch works. That is why say , when you idle a 800 RPM it dont creep
then you advance the throttle (engine rpm rises) there is a point
that car starts to move, this is the stall speed, threshold.
all normal.
this is why the operators guide has you start the engine brakes on
and trans in park then while holding the brake , you shift to drive
and prevent creeping,,,,,

if you are using low octane unleaded fuel try changing over to a higher octane premium fuel for one or two tanks full, or add injector cleaner to your fuel.

My car is idling entirely too fast. It drives itself and actually gets up to about 55 mph on it's own. I try to put it in park and the RPM's go up to 5-6. It happened before and they replaced the cruise...

You may have a large vacuum leak. To check for this spray some WD-40 or a similar product around the upper part of the engine with it running and listen for changes in the engine's speed. If you hear the idle rise or fall concentrate the spray on that area until you are able to locate the leak. Thank you, Dana P.S. Check carefully at the PCV valve line.

I had the exact same problem on my 04 GC. I put some Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner in from Wal-Mart and it seemed to fix the problems right away. Let me know.

Idles up and down after warm up

THE COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW

on the older hondas even the newer ones idle speed is coolant temp controlled.

when the engine idles up the electronic coolant temp sensor is submerged in coolant and reads warm, so the engine computer idles the car down. the coolant level if low than drops from around the coolant temp sensor and it says the engine is cold, so the engine computer idles the car up.

which results in the constant rise and fall in engine rpm.

ADD COOLANT TO THE RADIATOR AND WATCH THE CAR MAGICALLY FIX ITSELF.
