If you have monkeyed with the electrical system you have done something to make the cpu think there is a problem-like the cable company when you decide to steal cable-they can tell somethings going on-it is reading the resistance and there's probably more than there should be-so-try a piece of black tape over the warning-this is what car dealers do to fix things- cheers Denny

SOURCE: brake light came on on my 2003 BMW X5. Instrument

there is a sensor on the brake pads on bmws that check for noise and when the sensor hears noise it is telling the car that the wear indicators on the brakes are hitting and causing noise because the brake pads(lining) is low, means check your brakes the pads are low and if you dont check them soon you will have no pads left and my grind the pads metal to metal against the rotors,so all it is saying is you may need new brakes because they are worn out
hope that helps,,,

My bmw x5 4.4 suv keeps blowing instrument cluster. Fitted new alternator but reluctant to fit replacemnt cluster until voltage to cluster checked, how can I do this Driving me mad

Need a little more info,
When your cluster dies, is it everything?
All back lighting? or just the icons don't light anymore?
How about outside lights? tail, brake, marker, head lights, are any of those out when the fuse blows?
Does the fuse blow right away or is it a slow few minutes to hours or days?

I did some checking on BMW X5, seems that this particular vehicle has major problems with everything, so this may take some time to get straightened out.

Bmw x5 brake lights wont work fuses seem fine brand new bulbs

remove inoperative brake light bulb socket and look closley where the socket contacts the aluminum tail light housing, there could be a burn mark which would cause the light to not work, also check the connection at the plug as water damage may have cause rust, those are the most common problems, a tail light brand new would cost about 400 canadian but you maybe able to find a good used one

How to replace turn light on bmw x5

partially remove the desired light by remove the 4 8mm screws, two ont the top and two at bottom behing the light, pull the light out far enough that you can see the socket, you should be able to remove it at that point. You should also check the contact of the bulb as it is most likely burned or melting and has damaged the socket so you should replace he socket and bulb as the warning may still be present even though the bulb works. Also the rear tail lights have a corrosion and burning issue as well on the brake contacts.

My bmw x5 light comes on saying door open and all doors securley locked.

You need to replace on of the doors sensors, this normally happens when a door is slammed vigorously and had damaged one of the four sensors, somewhat costly in a BMW.
