Your problem is in the wires for the lights, The connectors all corrode from water etc. I pulled the wiring harness and replaced all connectors and sealed with liquid tape and when dried with normal electrical tape. Repair took about 6 hours.

1987 fiero #17 fuse keeps blowing...any suggestions?

fuse 17 looks like it operates the brake switch/brake lights/ and audiable alarm system. go thru the elimination process such as brake bulbs first(take out) see if fuse pops.after applying brakes the hazard-flasher is on this circuit as well so if u have a tilt steering wheel make sure wires are not frayed inside steering wheel column as well. from there it goes to the audible chime warning module..hope this helps

Highbeam switch

  1. If equipped, disable the SIR system. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the upper steering column cover.
  3. Remove the lower steering column cover screws and lower the steering column cover.
  4. Remove the 2 switch mounting screws and remove the switch.
  5. Detach all wire connectors from the combination switch. Push locking tabs to remove the wires.

To install:

  1. Attach all wire connectors to the combination switch.
  2. Install the combination switch to the column with the 2 attaching screws.
  3. Install the lower steering column cover screws and lower steering column cover.
  4. Install the upper steering column cover and attaching screws.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Enable the SIR system, if equipped.

I have a 1996 pontiac Sunfire and the low beams work but the high beams don't. I just replaced both bulbs and still doesn't work I also checked the fuses and they appear to be fine what else could...

YOU HAVE FAULTY COMBINATION SWITCH WHICH IS TURN SIGNAL SWITCH AND DIMMER SWITCH.YOU NEED TO DISABLE AIRBAG IN THE STEERING WHEEL.JUST TURN OFF RADIO REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE LET AIRBAG DISCHARGE AND THEN REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH FROM THE STEERING COLUMN.

Ok I have seen tons of posts about this issue with the Pontiac Sunfire, but no clear solution. I have a 2001 Sunfire the yesterday the Day Running Lights quit working. My passenger side head light will...

First check the R/S headlight fuse in the dash fuse panel (left side), second make sure the R/S low beam headlight bulb filament isn't blown, both these scenarios will do what you are saying. The DRL's work when both low beam lights are in series, thus only 6v going to each bulb at reduced brilliance. The high beam is a totally separate circuit controlled by the multifunction switch. The DRL relay is controlled by the Body Control Module, grounded there, and it will also illuminate the service vehicle soon light. It could also be a bad ground at G204. Its on the steering column support bracket.

99 sunfire no drl and only left highbeam works.replaced the relay and put in new bulbs.low beams work but as soon as i turn on highbeams the right light dosent work

it might the wiring harness. the wiring harness is a common problem for the sunfires. GM nows about this and put out a service bulletin but it is not a recall and is not covered under warranty.

2001 pontiac sunfire, turn signals dont work at all already checked fuses

most cars have a relay along with a fuse. You're fuse might be ok but if the relay went bad it won't work. sometimes they're under the hood other times they're by the fusebox under the steering wheel. they have a diagram check for continuity in the pins that the diagram shows a broken line for. if there is continuity replace the relay.

97 cherokee, lowbeam headlight won't go on?

Try putting your tilt steering wheel all the way up and see if it comes on. Ors did that and we had a pinched wire in the steering column.

Due to poor design on Fords part. When you use the tilt often, the wires inside due not have enough relief. They are to tight. My 02 sport track had same problem. Wire actually broke off inside the steering column. Take off the lower then upper plastic around column. You probably have broken or loose wires

Combination Switch

you do not have to remove the steering wheel to do this, just remove the upper and lower steering column covers, in which the tilt steering arm needs to be removed if your car has tilt steering, to do this just unthread, sometimes may be very tight nut can use a small pair of vise grips to loosen it just be sure to clamp it on the metal part of the lever not the plastic. Once covers removed, just change the switch and put back tpgehter
