My transmission will not shift into any gears with the engine running and clutch fully depressed. It will shift into all gears without the engine running. I have to place the transmission in first gear, then start the engine before I can dive. Can speed sift thru all gears no problem There are no noises coming from transmission, all is quiet

Check the fluid level on your clutch slave cylinder. Have someone depress the clutch while visually observing the movement of the levers under the hood. Could also be a bad throwout bearing.

obviously the clutch isn't disengaging when clutch pedal is depressed.
Did it slowly get worse? or did it come on all of a sudden?

We have replaced 5 speed transmission everything is new clutch pressure plate a truck will shift while turned off and will not shift in gear while running whats wrong

Is clutch release linkage working? Installing clutch disc backwards will do this too. With engine off, put in gear, depress clutch pedal and turn engine by hand to see if clutch is still dragging.

2003 Porsche Carrera 4 will not go into any gear with motor running. With the engine off I can shift through the gears just fine. It feels like the clutch is not fully disengaged.

You can test the clutch hypothesis. Carefully put the car in gear for a safe direction, then depress the clutch and turn over the engine. If the car lurches, then the clutch is not working. In this case, check the linkage to the clutch, or if yours is hydraulic, check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. If the cylinder is low, then don't stop by just filling it, you want to find out where the fluid went. Look for leaks - especially around the clutch slave cylinder.
If on the other hand your engine it starts with the transmission in gear and the clutch down without lurching, then try letting the clutch out slowly. With any luck you have it running and in gear. See what happens next. Good Luck!

1998 Ford Taurus SE, Problem Transmissions wont Shift, Took it to the Shop and they Said it Had to be a Electracal Problem?? But they did not Know what, Some times Works Fine Other Times Check Engine Comes...

Neutral Safety Switch
  • Put the selector in the park position.
  • Loosen the screws on the neutral safety switch.
  • Remove the switch.
  • Reverse the procedures to complete the installation.
Clutch Start Switch
Before replacing the clutch switch or any component connected to the vehicle's control computer, disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
  • After replacing the switch, slowly work the clutch pedal and note any unusual noises or interferences with pedal movement.
  • If the switch is adjustable, make sure the clutch pedal height and push rod (free) play are correct.
  • Then check the release point of the clutch.
  • Begin by engaging the parking brake and installing wheel chocks.
  • Start the engine and allow it to idle.
  • Without depressing the clutch pedal, slowly shift the shift lever into reverse until the gears contact.
  • Gradually depress the clutch pedal and measure the stroke distance from the point the gear noise stops (this is the release point) up to the full stroke end position.
  • If the distance is not within specifications, check the pedal height, push rod play, and pedal free play.
  • If the distance is correct, check the clearance between the switch and the pedal assembly when the clutch is fully depressed.

The clutch is the part that can connect or disconnect the engine from the transmission at any time when depressed through friction plates. It allows you to easily shift between gears and allows you to start or stop the car motion without having to start and stop the engine.
