When you change the BCM, (which is where the immobiliser is located) you have to have everything reset by a dealer, it is an anti theft feature

Is the bcm the black thing around the key , or is that the immobilizer and can I reset myself

  • Grahame Begg Nov 27, 2013

The BCM (body control computer) is normally under the dash, it interperates the signal from the ring around the key (this reads the transponder in your key) and tells the engine computer wether everything is matched together and not stolen, if set to match the engine is told that it may start, this is something that can only be done by someone with a Jeep master program worth a fortune to prevent criminal getting access, the most important vehicle security item because a car thief will rarely use a dealer

Ow ok is there any way too tell if it is the bcm preventing car too start ?

Ow ok is there any way too tell if it is the bcm preventing car too start ? And what does it look like ?

  • Grahame Begg Nov 28, 2013

The only way that I know is with the dealer computer, in Australia we can take it to the dealer, he hooks up his computer and instantly you can find out every thing your car has done. a full history, what is wrong, its mileage, mpg, every thing. just like that in 5 minutes

Do you know how much it cost ?

  • Grahame Begg Nov 28, 2013

sorry but I live in Queensland, Australia, vehicles all over the world are similar but wages and costs are not

    I live in Qld too

MAKE SURE DISTRIBUTOR CAP ,ROTOR, SPARKPLUGS AND WIRES, OKAY IF ALL HAS BEEN REPLACED.IF NOT GETTING SPARK PROBLEM COULD BE IGNITION COIL FAULTY, ASD RELAY FAULTY,DISTRIBUTOR WITH CAMSHAFT SENSOR FAULTY OR YOU HAVE FAULTY PCM. CODE SCAN VECHICLE FOR FAULT CODE, IF YOU ARE GETTING SPARK PROBLEM IN THE FUEL SYSTEM, CHECK FUEL PUMP RELAY AND FUSE MAKE SURE FUEL FILTER BEEN CHANGED AND FUEL PRESSURE IS 39 - 41 PSI. CHECK FOR FUEL SPARK SEE WHAT GOING ON, VECHICLE NEEDS FUEL OR SPARK TO RUN IF ONE NOT WORKING ENGINE WILL NOT START.

About 5 minutes after starting my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport, it cut off. Still has gas and good charge on battery. Have tried pickup for distributor but not the problem. Seems like it just won't get any...

Crankshaft sensor is responsible for fire (located driver side behind the engine mounted to transmission bellhousing), camshaft sensor (or distributor pickup) is responsible for injector pulses. Also check the ASD relay underhood and switch it with another like the horn relay.

How do I test the elec. motor and the fan relay on my '99 Jeep Cherokee Sport?

with an ohm meter check if the wires going to the relay have power when they should. next use a jumper wire from the pos. battery terminal to the power connector on the fan if the fan starts to run off the jumper then its probably the relay to blame. hope this helps.

Electric radiator fan does not come on.

signal from temperature sender goes to the computer which then tells the relay to close. relay should have power at one leg which when contacts close, comes out the other leg and goes to the fan.
