Clean the switch contacts with plastic safe electronic parts cleaner, dry, and re-connect. The switches are sensitive and must be very clean.

SOURCE: Car Window on drivers side will not go up and down on

In a car of that age the most likely problem is the motor. But it can also be a rusted mechanism or a faulty connection or switch. The only way to find which is to remove the door trim and test everything.

If the motor works when you apply power and ground directly to it the problem has to lie in the wiring or switch. I know you replaced the switch already but i would start with verifying that the switch is providing power and ground to the appropriate wires to the drivers window motor. You can check it at the motor first, if you don't have power there, check it at the switch. If you have power and ground at the switch but not at the window motor look for a broken wire. If you have power and ground at the window motor connector, yet the motor still doesn't work, do a voltage drop test to determine if there is excessive resistance in a connection or wire somewhere in the circuit.

The window switch on the drivers door to raise and lower the rear passenger is not working. I was able to lower the window but now it is stuck in the down position. Is there a way to override and roll up...

  • So if I understand you correct the drivers door switch is not working for the rear window.
  • Try using the the switch on the rear door for that window then.
  • The master switch is great to work all windows but the rear window switch should still work as well even if the master switch on the drivers door fails.
  • Now if both switches should don't work then it may not be a switch failure at all. this could be a wiring issue or a burnt window motor/regulator.
  • In this case you will nee some help as you are going to "help" the regulator out. Once you get it up I advise to let it be until repaired. You don't want to stress the track up to much before the whole assembly is replaced (should this be the problem).
  • So if both switches don't respond the your going to grab the window (one hand on each side of the window) as if your palms are touching and pull up at the same time the switched is being pushed up.
  • It may take a bit to get it but it will be fine.
  • If the window is down in the door (in the way down position) then get your fingers in there and grab the window and slowly pull up on it. Make sure the switch is being pushed to roll the window up at the same time.
  • Once you get it up a bit then take it the rest of the way as explained above.
  • I have had to do this on a few occasions and it works fine.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Power window switchs on 1996 gmc jimmy

Inspect or replace the window lock and unlock switch on the drivers door power window switch. There is a lock and unlock switch that will disable the switches to the other power window in the Jimmy. Check to make sure that switch is in the unlock position to have the other power window switch to work.
Thank you for suing fixya and good luck.

The drivers side window auto up/down quit

1. Start the car and leave it idle.
2. Hold the window button down all the way, until the window is completely down.
3. Let go and push it down again and hold the window button for 2 to 3 seconds then let go. (You should be able to hear or feel (very faintly) the motor/sensor reset.)
4. Pull up on the window button and roll the window up until it is all the way up, when it is up let go.
5. Pull the button up again for 2 to 3 seconds. (You should be able to hear or feel (very faintly) the motor/sensor reset.)

Drivers window will go down but not up

It may be that it is not on the track properly or your power window motor is old and tierd and can take the window down but it doesn't have the juice in it any more to bring it back up. replace the motor and it will work. This problem happened to me in my '76 ford ltd and a new motor fixed it.

2005 chevy impala rear driver power window stopped going up.stuck

If neither switch works it is a bad connection at the motor or bad ground or a bad motor. Remove the door panel unplug the motor push the switch and see if there is 12volts on the wires if there is the motor is bad There are small brushes in the motor that go bad tap on the motor while pushing the switch if it works that way replace it

Turn the key on

Press the window switch, lower the window, continue to hold the window switch down for 15 seconds after the window is completely lowered Don't use the auto feature

Pull the window switch up, raise the window, hold the button up for 15 seconds after the window is fully up. don't use the auto feature

Try the auto down feature again, see if it now works.
