Factory parts are more of like "direct" fit that your vehicle was built with parts from factories...the new one from part store is more like "general" fit which is not 100% exact.

What's the difference between the master cylinder with or without traction control

The parts-store gave you the wrong part. If you still have it, take the old part with you to the parts store. Just match it with the new one before you pay for it.

As for the traction-control matter, the difference has little to do with the master cylinder. In traction control, a computer and wheel-mounted sensors keep the wheels from skidding by turning the hydrolic pressure on and off to the individual wheels according to which one is or is not skidding.

What size of starter for my 2001 pontiac montana?

The Montana only came with one engine size, unlike what others may think. Unfortunately, at the factory, two different starters were put in, one slightly larger than the other. I've run into this several times on the Montana. I'm not sure, but I think it has to do with whether or not your car has the heavy duty transmission(which is commonly(but not always) determined by your wheel base). The Montanas came in two different lengths.
I address it is by purchasing both, removing the old starter and matching it up to the new one, then return the one I don't use. I document it for my customer, that way they have a reference for the future.
if that isn't an option, then take the old one out, catch a ride to the auto parts store, and match it up there. That way, you are only out of pocket for one and you don't have to front for a core charge.
if that still isn't and option and you can get the car to start, drive it to the auto parts store, remove the starter in their parking lot, and match it up, then install your new one.

CAN I USE DIFFERENT GAS CAP ON CHEVY EXPRESS VAN

First, you need to determine WHY the check engine light is on. It COULD be a faulty gas cap and if it is, be sure to replace with one EXACTLY like the one from the factory otherwise your check engine light will come on again.
Go to AutoZone (or other auto parts store) and ask to 'borrow' their code analyzer.
More details would be appreciated.

Replaced pcm and engine will not start

If it's a brand new computer you bought from an auto parts store then you might need to get it programmed at the factory. If it was bought at a salvage yard it would still have the factory settings programmed and should work if that was the problem if the car does the same thing that means this wasn't your problem to begin with.

Factory thermostat is robust with a stout spring. The replacement from the auto parts stores has a spring that is much weaker. How is this going to function the same way?

Try a different parts store entirely. You will find that the Autoparts stores are now selling their own brands and the thermostat from Autozone and its brand may be different than the same part at Advance. Go to NAPA for a better product.

While the Thermostat you have may work, you also have to remember some models of Mazda were made on Ford assembly lines. The replacement parts may be universally the same now, but the original Mazda parts were often heavier or of a different design. There were noticeable differences in body clips, fit and finish in seams and so forth that engineers battled over inside the jointly operated plants.

The water system does not have much pressure and the original part may have been over-engineered. If you are going to worry about it, use something you are happy with. It could only cost a few dollars more for the best.

You have option of different brands from different vendors NAPA, dealer or auto parts stores but they will have same basic master cylinder. They have to look part up by application. Shop around for best price and warranty.

Where are the spark plugs located on a mitsubishi outlander 2004?

spark plugs are under valve cover. Each plug has its own coil pack module. Plug is under this. Be ware, factory plugs may have to be ordered ( $ 15 - 20 ea.) , depending on parts stores in your area. here in Canada, some stores had wrong computer listings for all brands of plugs for this car!! The factory plugs are NKG Iridium, and are longer than conventional plugs!! I'm about to change mine ( 160000 KM's).Looked at plugs cpl mths ago, didnt look too bad. Hope to get another 160 K's from new ones ! Good luck .!

Orange engine light on dash just came on .What is the problem?

The best way to find out exactly what is going on is take it to AutoZone, Advanced Auto or another auto parts store. Most part stores offer FREE computer diagnostics. Don't take it to the dealer and pay $100's. Witha vehicle that new, there could be literally thousands of different things wrong. Best bet is to have it scanned for the exact error code. Then look that up on the net or you could have the guy at the auto parts store tell you what it is. You can then go from that to replace what needs to be replaced and you will be back to good in no time.
