This means the diesel soot elimination system is not working at its most effective range. The problem is related to using high Sulphur fuel, driving short distances, air leaks etc. It will clear itself if the vehicle is operated long enough to develop high exhaust temperatures.

Where is the cooling fan thermostat on a 99 ford contour

The cooling fan is controlled by the coolant temperature sensor near the thermostat, and when it senses too high temperature of the coolant, it operates the fan relay.
Check the fuse for the cooling fan, the cooling fan relay, and the fan itself for proper operation. You can use a multimeter to see if power is getting to the sensor. If not, and you find the fuse is good, then you'll have to find the break in the wire.

Why does my 98 ford contour only drive in reverse

I'm assuming you have an automatic transmission. It sounds like there is an internal fault in the transmission itself. You'll have to take out the trans and take it to a shop to have it repaired, unless you're experienced on this kind of work and have the special tools and equipment required.

1995 Contour. 2.0L. Idles really rough. When u pick the throttle up, it smooths out with an occassional miss.

look into maf and map sensors also (iac) idle air contol sensor if none of those then may have intake manifold gasket leak cuz if gasket is alowing to **** air then air/fuel mixtue is off cuz compute cant account fo the extra air added....hope this helps...may try to replace fuel filter if hasnt been done in awhile tough question wish you luck just a process of elimination.

I have a 1995 Ford Contour SE, 2.5L. I have two questions - 1. The cooling fans are not currently working and 2. The in dash temperature gauge is at max temp, even when the engine is cold. Is there an...

Answer to second question: It appears that that the wire to the coolant Temp Sensor has developed e short to the chassis somewhere which is giving the Max reading on the guage. Check the wiring in the engine bay around the Thermostat area for chafing or if the wire to the sensor has become disconnected and is touching the engine. The cooling fans normally are turned on by another sensor either near the temp sensor or on the radiator. Check the wiring around those places as well.

Recieved a fault code of P0113 during a car inspection. What should I be looking at to solve this problem?

The ECU is receiving a higher than normal resistance signal from the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor, Check the connections and if they are good more than likely the sensor is bad. The ECU can be bad but highly unlikely.

Start with the engine cold, and drain the coolant out of the radiator into a clean pan. loosen the clamps on either end of the upper radiator hose. twist the hose loose, then install the new hose along with new clamps. Fill up the radiator, start the engine for a few minutes, then shut down and check the coolant level again, and top off as needed. After the engine is up to temperature, check for leaks again, and recheck the coolant level the next time the car is cold again.

The most likely cause of this is a faulty exhuast recirculation system. It is used to cool the combustion process preventing the formation of nitrous oxide emissions. The main building block of acidic rain.Use your emission diagram and locate the EGR valve. You will need specialized equipment to check it. Other than taking it off and checking for blocked passages from carbon build up there is little you can do yourself.
