Are you certain the security has not immobilized the car? If it isn't a security issue, there is probably a problem in the start circuit.
If you check for power on the small starter solenoid wire, with the key held in crank, and no power is on that wire-the start circuit from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid has a problem. If the wire does have power with key in cranking position, probably a bad connection from battery to starter, since you have a new starter.
To be certain the engine is not locked up, put a socket and wrench on the crankshaft pulley center bolt and turn the engine over by hand a revolution or so.

Gonna try that. Was told to check the fusebox?

  • montehammons Nov 27, 2013

There is probably a starter relay in the circuit. The signal you need to check is the start wire out of the key switch, and then goes to the neutral safety switch. If in park or neutral, the signal goes on to the starter relay, and then to the starter solenoid. Good luck.

A friend of mine had a similar problem. What it turned out to be was a damaged battery. The vehicle wouldn't take a jump, but apparently there is some sort of sensor in the battery circuit that protects the system from a low voltage start attempt which could compromise some of the digital circuitry. Anyway, the explanation aside, swap out the battery with a known good one and see if that makes the diffwerence. He was researching the thing for a couple of weeks before a tech who had seen it before made the suggestion I'm making to you.

Known good one means holds the proper voltage, not just a charge. And since the system will be energized by the low voltage, the swap out should come after a complete system discharge in case there are some charged capacitors holding the relay open. i.e. Have the radio and lights on when you remove the battery. You know the drill. "Unplug your modem and wait at least 10 second before plugging it back in to give everything a chance to discharge fully.

I have had the exact same problem. There is an ignition lock that probably went off. There is a fuse box under the hood. The fuse that says ignition on it pull it out and put it back in. This should reset the ignition lock. Its a safety feature because the car thinks that someone was trying to tamper with it.

try over riding the starter relay on the fender ,it has one there right?. dont go to a mechanic yet. the engine aint seized. if it doesnt have this relay then i would get the alternator tested. if you want to test it yourself it can be costly for the right equip. autozone usually tests for free. i dont know were you live so if theres not an autozone. let me know if you cant get it tested.

SOURCE: 98 saturn sl1 won't start

If the problem occurs after the car has been driven long enough to reach normal operating temperature, the problem is the starter. If the 'no crank' occurs cold, retest the battery.

On a car that old, I would suspect a corroded fusible
link, in the wiring harness

I don't have have referrence material to help you
locate those items.

You still have to start buy checking the battery & it's cables
No power to anything at all, your working your way from
the battery to fusible links & on to fuses,to see what you do have

Really need a wiring diagram,if your into that type of understanding
of electrical

99 navigator. Wont start. Checked oil not on stick. Will low oil level keep it from starting? Just put 2 quarts in a couple days ago and it was full. Drove it 50 miles and parked it. Wouldnt restart and...

If you ran out of oil your engine is frozen You can now use it as a large paper weight. Even if you could start it everything inside is shot. Go to a junkyard and get an engine and have them or some one else install it

I un-hooked my battery replaced my starter and now my truck wont start.

are you getting a good connection?? Do you have dash lights???? If you have dash lights the problem is probably with the starter. If no dash lights you probably have a bad connection to the starter. You might even try to jump the vehicle if you cannot get dash lights. maybe a dead battery. If you have dash lights, check your starter and make sure you put the wires back in the same spot as the old starter, and make sure they are tight. Check your ground terminal on your battery as well
