It could be the neutral safety switch which prevents you from cranking the engine in gear.
But it could also be the anti-theft system. The system reads the chip in the key to allow the starter to crank the engine.
Is the security light staying on ?

How to you change a negative battery wire on a 1987 cadillac DeVille? Where does in end at the bottom of the car?

normally the neg battery cable will work its way to the engine block someplace, however you will have to trace it down if you have more than one large wire hooked up to the battery connection, depending on which motor you have in it

I need the wiring oder for spark plugs for a 1970 cadellac deville a diagram of my distributor would help

According to my Chilton book this is same for either engine. The firing order is 1-5-6-3-4-2-7-8. Standing at the front of the car looking at the engine #1 piston is at 9 o'clock on the distributor and it turns clockwise. The hold down screws for the cap should be at 12 and 6 o'clock nd the window to set dwell should be at 9. The odd number pistons are on the passenger side starting from the rad and the even numbers on the driver's side from the rad. Hope this helps.

1987 Cad. Eldorado 4.1 Valves Out of Adj.

Did you put the push rods back in same as they came out? On some they have short and long, like short for intake and long for exhaust, or visa versa. Thats what it sounds like to me, you got the push rods in the wrong spots.
