Question about 1995 Dodge Ram

1 Answer

My radio volume goes from full normal to full blast when it wants. I have to turn it off to save my speakers.

My radio volume goes from a normal level to full blast. It does this when ever it wants to and nothing I do will cause it to happen or nothing will cause it to stop short of turning it off. Any ideas? Bob

I would replace the radio. Especially if its stock. Look on www.craigslist.com and www.ebay.com for a replacement. You should get a good deal between the two.

The radio in my 1995 jeep grand cherokee plays full volume on the right channel when turned on.

  1. bad radio amp
  2. bad wiring to speakers.
  3. or bad speakers.
the tests are easy, ask.
my guess is the weak side is bad, the load side is ok.
you can turn the volume down on the load side using volumn control
if yes that side is ok, fix weak side.

ask how, but make sure the wiring in all 4 corners are not damage
and at both ends of harness.

Tip

Motors. temperature rising/oveheating in traffic

When you observe your temperature guage climbing into the red while in trafiic, open your windows (depending on weather) and turn your heater on full blast until it goes into normal temperature again. once the traffic has cleared find a local garage and have you water level and cooling fan operation checked. Do not attempt to open the radiator or expansion tank when hot as this could result in serious injury.

The radio plays full volume on right channel when turned on.

Anything I tell you is going to be a guess, since there has been no testing done, and we don't have the model number of the specific radio involved. However...
For a 20 year old radio, the volume and balance is almost certainly controlled by a potentiometer that has input into one leg of the fixed resistance, and the other leg (of the fixed resistance) is grounded. The movable center tap is the output to the amplifier - and its position controls the volume to that channel. If the ground leg becomes disconnected (broken wire, or a cold solder joint, or even a break in the resistor within the body of the potentiometer) then instead of "dividing" the volume, it simply provides a slight resistance inline - short answer: It goes full volume.
You can try running the control full range back and forth, and even just the old time "slap it" approach, to see if you get any static or change. If you do, that pretty well confirms the diagnosis. [If not, it just means the break is not close to touching - still almost certainly the right answer though.]
Only fix is going to be disassembly. You then may be able to find the break (and resolder it), and/or replace the volume potentiometer. Note that if you have remote volume/balance control (controls on the steering wheel), then there is some extra wiring that can likewise be involved. jk

Definitely sounds like the the PDB is getting wet. Simulate rain with a water hose w/ a nozzle gun. Spray it on the windshield and around the hood area and track where the water goes to determine what's getting wet.

2007 Saturn Aura XE, the audible alarms can hardly be heard

Good news - they're adjustable. The radio is used to adjust the vehicle's chime level. To change the volume level of the chime, press and hold push-button 6 with the ignition on and the radio power off. The volume level will change from the normal level to loud, and LOUD will appear on the radio display. To change back to the default or normal setting, press and hold push-button 6 again. The volume level will change from the loud level to normal, and NORMAL will appear on the radio display.

Note: Each time the chime volume is changed, three chimes will sound to indicate the new volume selected.

Sound problem in 97 dodge stratus

I had the same problem.. and I fixed it. The problem is the stock amplifier under the passenger seat.. What happens is you are pushing more amps from the cd player through the amplifier than the amplifier put out in the first place, so the amp acts as a resistor, and for some reason it causes the speakers to cut out when turning signal, brake lights, wipers, or any lights/electrical are applied. The only solution I know is to wire straight from your cd player to the speaker itself.. it's kind of a job but if you like wiring etc. it turns out alright.
Hope this helps,
Kyle
