Question about 1995 Toyota 4Runner

1994 Toyota 4Runner, Rear window goes down on one side but not the other and then won't go back up. The key and the console button both work but I heard some sort of metal component inside the tailgate door break. How much should this cost to fix?

Sounds like what just happened to me on my 1995. The window regulator needs to be replaced because the roller broke. You can't just go buy a new roller. I checked. You have to buy the whole unit (window regulator).

Sounds like something just fell apart inside. Probably just a roller or something. If you can't do it yourself, it shouldn't cost too much. Just make sure you stand there and watch, so you don't get ripped off. In fact, if you take the cover off the inside of the tailgate, maybe you can fix it yourself.

I have found that the switch usually goes bad before the motor does. the switch is easy to take out and take apart, just use a light hand and be gentle while disassembling the switch.

I have a 1996 toyota 4runner with power rear window. The window goes down and up fine but after you put it up then it goes back down one inch by itself -- any ideas ??

I had similar problem on my 98 4runner it would even go all the way down on its own . I removed the rear panels controller mount, unplugged all the harnesses at the controller to cleanly remove the upholster panel and the steel panel so I could plug the controller harnesses back in to trouble shoot it without having panels hanging and dangling. I actually had to drill a rivet on controller mount.

I removed the front panel switch from the circuit. You can reach in under by the emergency brake handle and pop the switch assembly out the unplug the switch. I used my 12 volt battery from my RV and applied 12 volts directly to the motor (Pos to red, minus to green) to raise it all the way up, this did not cure the problem for me so I put the up/down switch back in the circuit.

Next I had to unplug the harnesses again and raise the window again with the RV battery. With window raised all the way you can reach the plug to unplug the key switch and remove it from the circuit. This fixed it for me so I left the key switch on rear tailgate unplugged and it now works fine with just the front panel switch.

Hope this helps

Which fuse is for the rear window wiper and rear window defogger on 2003 Toyota 4Runner (V6)?

You Have one fuse for the wipers in the car. Left side of steering wheel and the back cover should list the fuses and location. The other box is located in the engine compartment above the battery. They should list the fuse locations under the compartment covering the fuses. Hope that helps

You should be able to put your key in the rear door and turn in either direction to roll the back window up and down.

Rocker switch for 94 4runner

There will be some dirt between the contacts.
The best way is to remove the centre console where the switch sits and clean the switch itself. It is an easy job, just a few screws to remove the center console.

98 4Runner rear window no longer operates

Open the rear hatch. Pull off the inner trim panel. Look to see if there is a little box with a bunch of wires connected to it. It may be at the lower edge, driver side. Turn the key on. Test for 12 volts at the solid BLUE wire (there is only 1 solid blue wire) that is connected to the box. Is there power? If not, check the 30 amp POWER fuse. If there IS power, this box may be bad. This is the power window relay for the rear hatch. The wiper/washer and the rear window motor power all come out of this box.
BUT:
Check for power & get back to me before you buy a relay box, there are a few other tests I could share with you before we pronounce the relay box bad...

Back window won't work

The fuse for the rear window is a 30amp fuse located under the drivers side of the dash. It should be the only 30 amp fuse in that fuse box. Also there is a relay that controls all the functions of the back door. It is located inside the rear door. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Hello, I'm having a rear window operation problem with my 1995 Toyota 4 runner. The window no longer will retract. I do hear a slight "click" when I rotate the keyed switch in either direction...

On my 1989 4runner the problem was the contacts on the relays that close to open or close the rear window. They are located on the drivers side under the side panel near the rear seats on the 89. I looked up the part numbers on the relays and found they are a dealer only item. Using the current rating and the physical size of the connections and a relay interchange manual I found better ones for under $10. It has been a few years ago so I am unable to tell you the part number. I think I got them from Newark Electronics. Toyota only sells the entire circuit boar for several hundred dollars. Another option would be to get one at a wrecking yard.
